About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Karen and I am a BACP registered Humanistic Counselling Therapist. This training, together with many years of practising Buddhism, led me to understand that when we are truly heard we are able to navigate from a painful and anxious place towards our authentic, more fulfilled and resilient selves. I trained at The Metanoia Institute in London and have experience working with clients from many different backgrounds, ethnicities, genders and age groups. Following a career in the creative industries and having personally experienced both helpful and not so helpful therapy, I chose to re-train in my late 40’s. I had a desire to offer a healing space for others to be believed and heard, enabling a process for people to discover a more creative and fulfilling life. I gained a BSc in Humanistic Counselling. I have also completed training within the Human Givens Institute, which is focused mainly on short term work, discovering more practical solutions to human problems.

Practice description

I offer a warm, confidential, non-judgemental space for individual therapy. I do not believe there is 'one size fits all' approach for therapeutic healing. In addition to a humanistic approach, which believes everybody has the potential for positive change; I also offer creative and practical suggestions to everyday problems that as humans, we all encounter in our lives. For example, ways of coping with anxiety could include meditation, guided imagery or breathing techniques. This offers a flexible, holistic client-focused way of working. Our therapy may also include offering ideas if it is felt it may improve our time together; such as reading material or TED talks. Therapy will be regularly discussed to ensure we make the most use of our time together.

My first session

I know engaging in therapy may be a daunting or unfamiliar experience for some. I can offer an initial 15 minute free introduction that will give us the opportunity to meet and for you to be able to ask any questions you may have. The effectiveness of therapy can be dependant on the quality of the relationship between client and therapist and so… this is an opportunity for us to establish if I am the right therapist for you!

If you choose to proceed with therapy then the initial exploratory session will last for approximately 1.15 hours and is charged at £70.00. Subsequent sessions are 50 minutes and offered weekly.

I  offer both short and long-term therapy.
