About me and my therapy practice
Making the decision to seek counselling shows a desire for change. Starting therapy demonstrates a commitment to making those changes happen.
My previous role as a counsellor at a leading youth charity means I have experience supporting young adults and teenagers. A particular focus of my work has been helping clients overcome anxiety and their self-critic. I currently work with a charity that supports those who have been bereaved through suicide.
As well as young people I work with people dealing with loss and bereavement and those transitioning through difficult stages in their lives, whatever their age.
I have included some of the feedback I have had from clients below.
"I loved working with Owen and I know I'll continue to do so when needed, it's rare to trust someone with your problems like this." G.A.
"Owen guided me through a really tough time in my life and has really helped me become the person I am today." F.E-M.
"He helped me develop the tools necessary to see myself with eyes unclouded. He helped me be kinder to myself, and really supported me through a difficult time." F.M
"Owen worked with my son and did a fantastic job helping him to understand more about how his emotions can be managed." I.C.
"I felt very safe, listened to and empathised with. I was given the space to bring up uncomfortable things and work through them in a supportive environment." E.M.B.
"Your listening skills are fantastic and I also like the personal approach you take with me as a client. I find it easier to seek help because of that and I don't feel judged, which is very important!" Z.T.
"Owen got me out of a really dark place and has continued to support me to stabilise my life again. He showed the most amazing commitment and care to helping me and went above and beyond. I always recommend him!" A.B.

Practice description
Sessions are 50 minutes and either take place at my practice room in Forest Row or remotely (phone or online). I follow the BACP's ethical code and am a qualified person centered counsellor. I have an up to date enhanced DBS certificate and am fully insured.
I offer a discount to student counsellors and public service workers.
My first session
I meet with new clients after an initial phone conversation. This includes a potential client whose parents, partners or family are looking for support on their behalf.
Many young people struggle to talk on the phone so I am happy to discuss an initial meeting with their parents or guardians in the first instance. If the young person then agrees to go ahead I charge for this initial session.

About me and my therapy practice
I trained for a year as a supervisor and have a CPCAB awarded Level 6 qualification in counselling supervision. I work with counsellors from humanistic modalities, my own background being person-centred. I have worked with trainees as well as qualified counsellors and offer a supportive space to discuss clients as well as the needs of the therapists I work with.
I offer discounted sessions for students and counsellors at the beginning of their therapeutic careers. Get in touch to discuss.
Practice description
My supervision practice is underpinned by the seven eyed supervision model and the normative, formative, restorative model developed by Inskipp and Proctor. Using these models and drawing on my own experience of working in private practice and for counselling organisations I work collaboratively with my supervision clients to help them deliver the highest standard of therapy work and to always look to develop themselves as practitioners. I am very focussed on client work but also want to give my supervison clients a confidential space where they can talk through their own experiences, discuss their careers and direction and how the work they are doing can impact them personally. I work in a non-judgemental way and believe the BACP ethical principles are in place to guide us as therapists.
A lot of my own work is supporting young people aged 13 to 25 and this forms half of my own counselling work and allows me to offer supervision to therapists who also work in this area. In addition I work with older people and in bereavement, especially suicide as well as general private practice.
My first session
Supervision works best if we both feel we can build a relationship founded on trust and the best interests of your clients. I am not afraid to laugh with my supervisees nor am I afraid to ask difficult questions when it is appropriate. I have benefitted hugely from my own supervision and believe it is absolutely essential to good practice.
With that in mind I offer a free 30 minute zoom call to all supervision enquiries. This time will give us the space to explore what you are looking for from a supervisor and to look at some client work.
It is important we both feel we can work together and this free session gives us the opportunity to test that out.
I can also offer this session in person from my therapy room in Forest Row, East Sussex.
