About me and my therapy practice

It's very tricky coming up with anything original in these blurbs, so I will stick to basics instead!

I’m warm, friendly & down to earth. I’m neither mystical nor aloof & am committed to building a relationship with you that allows you to be open, honest & feel safe enough to explore yourself, your world & your problems.

I'm a fully qualified, experienced, Person-centred Counsellor and am a Senior Accredited Member of the BACP. Over the years, I have worked as a counsellor in fourteen different settings, including the NHS, third sector organisations, Employee Assistance Programmes & in colleges and schools.

I have worked with people on a very wide range of issues, including: general anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks, family & relationship problems, depression, abuse, racism, LGBTQI+ issues, problems at work or university, bereavement, and issues around neurodiversity (I am neurodivergent myself!)

Taking the first step can be difficult (and scary!). Just get in touch via the method of contact you feel most comfortable with (or find the least worse!). If you're not sure what to say, just keep it as brief as you like- I won't be judging you for it as I sometimes find contacting people for the first time difficult too.

The first appointment is free. It's a chance for us to get to know each other and to see if I'm the right counsellor for you. We will work at your pace on whatever you want to work on and together we will try to get you to where you need to be.

Feel free to visit my website for more information about me or counselling.

Practice description

I used to offer in-person appointments in Manchester, but have switched to online and telephone counselling only.

I usually use Zoom, but if you'd prefer a different video counselling format just let me know and I'll check if it's secure enough! If you don't like any kind of video counselling and would prefer telephone counselling, that's okay too!

My first session

The first session is free and is a chance for both of us to ask any questions we might have. It's also a chance for you to get a better idea of what counselling is and the way I work.

I'll explain a few things (like privacy, data protection etc) and ask a few safeguarding questions. Then the rest of the session is yours to ask any questions or talk about whatever you're struggling with. If you find it difficult to get going, I can ask you some questions to help!

What I can help with

ADD / ADHD, Anger management, Anxiety, Autism spectrum, Bereavement, Cancer, Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, Cultural issues, Depression, Health related issues, Identity issues, LGBTQ+ counselling, Loss, Men's issues, Neurodiversity, OCD, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Sexual identity, Stress, Work related issues
