About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Joanne and welcome to my profile.
Are you feeling distressed, ashamed, or guilty around your eating habits? Do you turn to food when you are feeling upset, lonely, bored, or tired? I know it can feel daunting to even start looking for someone to help you, so taking that step takes a lot of courage.
Our ways of responding to life issues often have roots in our childhood which, at that time, was the only way we could look after ourselves. Those ways of responding may now be detrimental to our well being and it can be helpful to find new ways which will be of benefit to us.
As a qualified integrative counsellor (Minster Centre, London), with a background in nutrition and eating problems within the NHS, I will provide you with a space to explore your difficulties in a supportive, understanding and non-judgemental way. With this exploration, there often arises an understanding of the difficulties in a new light which brings relief.
My training is integrative which means I have studied a number of different psychological approaches and aim to draw on them to different degrees depending on you, the individual client. However, I have a special interest in the body and believe that our emotions and life stresses are experienced and held in our body. As we become more of aware of these sensations and related emotions we can begin to understand the stories underneath them which can help bring about positive change.
If you want to explore your feelings and emotions around food in a safe, non-judgemental environment, I am here with the expertise and compassion to support you on your journey.
Please use the contact form if you would like to discuss any of this further.
I offer face to face counselling in Bromley, Kent.
My first session
In advance of the first session, I will ask you to fill in a short assessment form.
At the first session we can explore the difficulties you are bringing, and what you would like to focus on. We will also discuss your expectations of therapy and whether you would like short or long term work.
It is important that you feel comfortable with your therapist, and so you will also need to decide whether we can work together on your journey.
