Availability
I can offer zoom online/telephone/email/walk and talk sessions (in Thame).
If you are a student, I understand that finances can be an issue and will offer a reduced fee (please feel free to mention this to me). Concessionary rates are available for online sessions and I am happy to discuss this with you, taking individual needs into account.
If you wish to have a face to face appointment, we can arrange this at The Practice Clinic (in Thame, whereby the fee will be £68, rather than £55, due to the cost involved of booking a room).
The first session can feel overwhelming as you may not be sure what to expect. However, it takes courage to arrange a first appointment and clients often say that this is the 'hardest part' - beginning therapy.
There is no right/wrong as to how a therapy session ought to be, nor is there any pressure to book further sessions.
I am offering therapeutic support to you, whereby we will work together at your own pace and if you choose to, we can then arrange dates/times which suit both of us.
About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Louise and I work in private practice as an Integrative holistic Counsellor /Psychotherapist (with additional CBT training).
I understand that the thought of starting counselling sessions can feel overwhelming or daunting - as it may not be something that you have done before. Sharing your thoughts may not be easy and you may feel vulnerable, however, having the courage to 'open up' in a safe space can enable you feel supported; heard and not alone. When working alongside you on your counselling journey, I acknowledge that we are all unique individuals and there is no right/wrong way for a session to be.
I recognise that holding onto thoughts/feelings, may impact on our body in a negative way and may manifest within us creating tension within the body. This could result in headaches; stomach/digestive issues; chronic pain and negatively impact on our health and well being. Unfortunately, this could possibly lead us to not being able to move forward as there is a sense of not feeling able to psychologically or physically.
I can work alongside you with compassion and understanding to explore what is going on 'for you' and how this is impacting you.
Counselling is useful as life can be unpredictable, creating feelings of stress; anger; anxiety; depression; low mood; lethargy; lack of motivation and isolation.
There may also be a sense of loss, for example if there has been a relationship breakdown; trauma; redundancy; or moving through grief and bereavement.
I also support clients who are adjusting to parenthood as it may be different to expectations; involve changes to identity and fears of not being 'good enough'.
To enhance my practice, I have undertaken the following courses:
Advanced CBT Diploma; Anxiety and Aggression Management Practitioner Diploma; Grief and Bereavement Counselling Diploma; Couples and Family Therapy Diploma; Dealing with Depression Diploma; Eating Disorder Awareness Diploma; Telephone and online Counselling.
Practice description
I work as Integrative Counsellor although am fortunate that I have undertaken Adlerian Counselling and Psychotherapy Training. This means that we have the opportunity to explore some early memories; family constellation and dreams (which can be a useful way of identifying behaviour patterns).
I come from an NHS Medical background and have practiced as a Midwife/Health Visitor and gained a Psychology Degree. This means that I have an understanding of health conditions/chronic pain and how this can affect our well-being psychologically. My maternity experience has led to having a specialist interest in supporting women who have difficulties in conceiving (e.g. IVF); and issues relating to pregnancy; birth trauma and the postnatal period. The adjustment to parenthood can be challenging and life is not necessarily how you thought it would be. Personal expectations of what life 'should' look like may different to reality and this adjustment can impact on your relationship with your partner and family. Your sense of 'self' and personal identity may have changed and you may feel that you are not the same person. Parenthood can feel isolating with ongoing worry that we aren't 'good enough' and there may be a feeling of comparing ourselves to others and self criticism, as opposed to being encouraged to notice our personal strengths, with self belief.
I offer counselling with compassion, in a safe; confidential space to help with:
Anger
Anxiety and Stress
Bereavement and Grief
Chronic pain/feeling unwell
Depression - including antenatal/postnatal
Eating disorders
Family Dynamics
Health issues
Loss (e.g. of a person/pet/job/sense of self)
Menopause and the hormonal changes
Pregnancy - miscarriage/termination/health
Relationships - friendships; partners
Studying/Job/occupational problems
Trauma - including birth experiences

My first session
Our first session together is an opportunity to find out what has brought you to counselling and how we can work together to overcome your perceived difficulties.
It may be that a 'one off' session is all that you would like, or it may be that a number of sessions are agreed between us and then we review how you are experiencing therapy and how you would like to progress.
There is no right/wrong way to have counselling, it is about what works best for you as an individual.
If you would like to have an initial telephone call or a brief zoom meeting, please feel free to request this.
There will not be a charge, it is a time that you can ask any questions you may have about how I work or simply be an opportunity for us to connect with each other.
However, if you prefer, you could arrange to have a full 50 minute session straight away.
This can be a ‘one off’ or you can choose to book a number of appointments in advance (at a time which works for us both).
Payment is required (via BACS) before the session if it is online via zoom/telephone.
Following receipt of the fee, your appointment is guaranteed at the time agreed and a zoom link will then be sent to you.

This means that I have an understanding of health conditions/chronic pain and how it can negatively impact on your mental health. Research has indicated the link between mind and body and I have observed this personally and professionally.
