About me and my therapy practice
Living with anxiety can be a nightmare. There is the constant worry, racing heart and the feeling of dread in your stomach. It can feel like being exhausted but too wired to go to sleep and lying awake at night dreading the next day.
Sometimes avoiding the cause of the anxiety helps in the short term but in the long run this only makes it worse and you end up worrying more.
You might have tried talking to friends and family but perhaps they don’t understand and tell you to stop worrying (if you could - you would). You might also worry that you are becoming a burden or worse that you are starting to go crazy.
As a counsellor with a deep understanding of these challenges, I'm here to reassure you that you aren’t going crazy and that you can overcome this with the right help.
I have helped people with many forms of anxiety including:
- Social anxiety
- Health anxiety
- Generalised anxiety disorder
- Overwhelm and burnout
- Menopause anxiety
Working with me is a collaborative journey, built on trust and respect. I'll listen without judgement, gently challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, and equip you with practical tools to manage your anxiety.
Overcoming anxiety can look like feeling calm instead of being on red alert, finally having the confidence to apply for a new job, getting your social life back again or even just being able to sleep well again. Together we set the right goals for you and work towards them.
My clients have discovered newfound freedom finding that counselling has helped them to feel calm again and live the life they want.
Before I became a counsellor I fought my own battle with anxiety. Through therapy, I was able to look at myself more compassionately and learn new strategies to overcome the fear.
I don’t set any rules on how many sessions you book, but I recommend 6 to begin with. We will regularly review your progress and how well you are doing at reaching your goals. If anything needs adapting or changing, we work flexibly together to ensure you get exactly what you need from our relationship.
I am an integrative counsellor, drawing from various techniques depending on your goals and preferences. Techniques I might use are:
- CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) to give you practical techniques to cope with anxiety and understand how your thoughts can affect your mood.
- Person-centred therapy allows you to explore how your past could have contributed to your feelings about today's world. For example, as a child you might have learned that you had to be “good” and now are stuck in a pattern of people pleasing. Understanding that can help you choose new ways of relating to others in the future.
- Hypnotherapy to help break unhelpful patterns and beliefs and replace them with new, more helpful ones.
