About me and my therapy practice
We experience new challenges at different times in our lives. Some life events can interrupt our being and trigger sadness, pain and confusion. None of us are protected from painful and traumatic life experiences; however, despite how hopeless it feels, giving yourself a chance to feel better is essential. Psychotherapy is an opportunity to look at your life, better understand your inner world, and find new, healthier ways to cope with everyday challenges and painful past experiences and traumas.
If you are struggling with something, feeling overwhelmed or simply stuck, it can help to talk. People seek counselling for many different reasons, I can provide you with a safe, confidential and comfortable space for you to explore whatever issues you may want to bring. Counselling can help to open up possibilities for change, supporting you to live your life as you want.
My vocational training specialised with issues including anxiety, bereavement, depression, self-harm, trauma and working with children and young people. I have an educational background including supporting and coaching teachers in university settings. I have also worked within agency settings with clients experiencing a variety of concerns including anxiety, self-harm, depression, loss, bereavement, lack of motivation, relationships and work-related issues. I currently work as a school based counsellor one day per week.
Please do call or text me if you would like to arrange an initial, free twenty minute conversation.
Practice description
I am happy to have a brief informal chat with you before starting counselling to answer any questions you may have. This will give you the opportunity to decide whether you want to work with me. The relationship between a counsellor and a client is at the core of counselling’s success, so it is important that you feel happy with the counsellor you choose.
Each session will last 50 minutes and is normally at the same time each week. It is entirely up to you how long you come to counselling. Some people find the support they need in a few sessions, others like to come for longer. Short time work can help with a specific issue or simply offer some support in a time of crisis. Longer term work can lead to more profound changes.
I am currently offering online sessions only with face to face sessions from 3 January 2024 in central Penarth . Please enquire if you would prefer face to face appointments before then.
My first session
Generally we will have chatted on the telephone before we begin.
Before our first session, you will have received an initial personal information form, a contract and, in a separate email, a link for our first appointment via Zoom. In our first session we will talk through these forms and how we will manage working online, specifically, what happens if we lose internet connection. We will also consider your online safety.
In our first session we will be talking through the personal contact form, the confidentiality policy as well as exploring your own goals and what you wish to gain from the therapy.
We will make a contract and working agreement for our sessions and expectations. We will want to start to explore what has brought you to counselling. There will be time to ask questions to ensure you fully understand what counselling can offer you and how it can help you.
