About me and my therapy practice
I am a registered integrative CBT therapist, using different ideas to help you identify and process what is going on for you. My starting point is always with the understanding that life is difficult – unfortunately! From that premise we work together to question any underlying beliefs that may be causing issues, while empowering you to reach your goals. I aim to create a warm, non-judgmental space and am a great believer in the restorative power of humour. This work helps build resilience and self-acceptance. I have worked in the NHS, privately and with armed forces veterans and have experience with anxiety (in its many forms), depression, anger, low self-esteem, trauma, shame, guilt and moral injury. I work with all age groups from 16 upwards online and in person.
Some clients come with very specific issues to work on, such as insomnia, social anxiety, health anxiety, whereas some arrive with much broader concerns, such as a general feeling of 'stuckness', depression or generalised anxiety. The average number of sessions is 8-12, but this can of course be shortened or lengthened as appropriate. As we discuss what is going on for you, I will gradually introduce a framework which will empower you to work through issues on your own in future - so that you can become your own therapist. I use a mixture of somatic, philosophical and cognitive techniques plus explanations from evolutionary psychology to help you broaden your perspective and understand where some of your feelings, thoughts, behaviours and reactions come from. This is an interactive form of therapy - but one where I will aim to work at your pace at the right level of emotional validation and challenge.
