Practice description

About my Practice

I offer a professional, confidential and a friendly approach to counselling. I work in an open-ended way to find the right pace for you so that we can work together to help alleviate difficult feelings and situations that may be affecting you.

Whilst friends and family may be able to help us with decision making, sometimes working with a professional can give an unbiased approach to help you decide what is right for you. Counselling can assist to work through relationships difficulties, work issues, stress, anxiety and depression, as well as bereavement or the effects of a trauma on our lives.

I have trained in Psychodynamic Counselling, Psychotherapeutic Counselling and Somatic Skills for Trauma. This means I have access to a number of techniques and resources to tailor the counselling approach to your needs. We can find a place of safety in the body to help you feel safer to explore difficult or traumatic events.

I also have experience of working with neurodiversity, such as ADHD or ASD.

As a member of the BACP I work in accordance with their ethical framework.

A little about me

Before training as a counsellor, I worked as a manager in the commercial world, for large corporate companies before helping to run a family business. I have always enjoyed working with and helping people develop in their professional role and supporting them emotionally too. I have worked for and several local counselling agencies over the years. When working through my own challenges in the past, I have found counselling, yoga and breath work have helped me enormously and I incorporate this in my counselling work if people are interested and open to this approach.

My first session

After our initial telephone call, and if you feel comfortable after our discussion, we will book an assessment session.  This is an opportunity to take a thorough history, helping me to understand how best to work with you, and is slightly different to a normal counselling session.

In our first session we will talk about the counselling contract, which outlines what we can expect from each other in the counselling work, such as confidentiality and fees.

We will talk together about the problems and your expectations of the work before formulating a plan of how to work towards your goals.
