About me and my therapy practice
As a person-centred counsellor, my role is to help you understand your emotions, thoughts and actions in a setting that is unique to everyday life.
Mental health, just like physical health, can deteriorate if not addressed early, and can be affected by one-off events such as bereavement, or an ongoing negative influence in our environment.
There are many emotional issues that stay with us and come into our awareness only from time to time, often not long enough - or without significant impact - for us to feel the need to address them. With time, these issues can develop, affecting our emotional well being and impacting negatively on our daily life in the form of lack of concentration, enthusiasm, self-respect, will to change, encouragement, and so on.
The good news is that people have an inner strength and wisdom that is often just being suppressed by the need to feel accepted and loved or, in harder times, just to feel noticed. The conditions provided by person-centred therapy can help facilitate positive change, helping you to recover your inner strength and wisdom again.
You are very much the expert of yourself and it is my role to provide the safe, respectful and supportive conditions to help facilitate change. I am not here to tell you what to do, think or how to feel - I am here to listen to what you think and how you feel and, by exploring that, help you make sense of it enough to move forward.
My first session
Your first session is free and 30 minutes long. In this time we can get to know a little bit about each other and how I might be able to help you.
If after the initial meeting you want to carry on with regular sessions then we can arrange that, but if you decide it does not sound right for you then that is fine too.
