About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified therapeutic counsellor providing 1:1 sessions in Southbourne, Bournemouth for adults.
I provide professional support by focusing on what you feel is important. Working together at your pace will give a clearer understanding of yourself and what you are experiencing. This leads to seeing things in a different way and strengthens your ability to find a way forward.
I was a counsellor for a service based in Lymington. I have over 20 years experience of helping people. I worked in supportive roles in education, criminal justice system and on NHS mental health wards such as: eating disorders, dementia, intensive care, forensic, adolescents and the crisis helpline. I previously trained as a Dramatherapist and delivered group sessions at the Maudsley Hospital in London. My anger management diploma from the British Association of Anger Management led to delivering programmes and training.
I respect the courage it takes to reach out for help. Your choices and feelings will be valued, and your privacy will always be protected.
I will provide a space which is free from judgement where you can talk confidentially and experience warmth and acceptance from someone who wants to see things from your perspective. This can support you to find a way of coping, create a stronger sense of self, trust in your abilities and break unhelpful patterns of behaviour.
As every person is unique I am trained in a variety of approaches which enables us to find a way of working that suits you, which covers different types of talking therapy or working in more creative way.
If you want to look at a something in a different way working creatively with our unconscious is a way of understanding things we may not be aware of which can be helpful and healing. You don't have to be creative, it is just a way of looking at an issue that does not rely on words, using for example objects to explore and resolve problems.
My first session
Our initial contact is a way of introducing ourselves, you can ask any questions you may have. We can talk about where sessions take place, our availability including days and times that suit you. If you wanted you could tell me a bit about what you are looking for and I could tell you how I work.
If you decide you would like to meet in person we will book an initial meeting charged at a reduced rate of £20. We can discuss what you hope counselling will help with and if I can meet your needs. It is a way of seeing if you feel comfortable working with me. If I am unable to help I will make sure I give you information about other support.
Once counselling has started we will do a brief assessment where I gather basic information and we come to an agreement about how to work together. I regularly make sure we are working in a way that is helpful for you and encourage feedback about how you experience counselling.
