About me and my therapy practice

Having the space for yourself to consider your thoughts and feelings is important. I work to create a space for clients to reflect on what’s happening in their lives and to explore their emotions. My role is to work alongside clients to help them develop a better understanding of who they are and what they want.

The environment we live in, the people we interact – they can, too often – have an adverse impact on us. Discrimination, prejudice and being ‘othered’ can and do affect how we view ourselves; it has an impact on our confidence and self-esteem and in turn impacts what we feel we’re able to do.

Trust is important in the therapeutic process – for some clients, particularly if they are new to therapy, it can take some time to build that. And that’s ok. I work in an affirming and non-judgemental way to help you unravel complexity in your life, work to identify your emotions and values – to help you work towards a future that you want .

We can often hide from the ‘negative emotions’ like shame, anger and jealousy – they can be strong emotions and by examining them, we can often learn more about ourselves. My work is to create that space for you to feel safe enough to explore your feelings.

I have worked in the fields of Diversity & Inclusion for some years and have extensive experience of working with different aspects of identity and difference from my practice and have volunteered in the third sector/community and LGBT+ organisation. These experiences have a strong influence on my therapeutic practice.

I have a particular focus of working with issues related to racism/prejudice, masculinity and workplace dynamics – helping clients to work through their emotions to understand how they can develop and thrive from difficult situations.

Practice description

As an an integrative practitioner, I use a number of therapeutic approaches - psychodynamic, person-centred and cognitive behavioural therapies.

In practice what you will see will be the building of a relationship between us to allow you to explore difficult thoughts & feelings that maybe holding you back or even look at those you may not have expressed to anyone before. It is a place where you can begin understand who you are and what you want to achieve – without judgement or expectation.

What I’m not here to do is tell you what to do – only you can determine that. I do commit to my clients that I will work with them to help them develop their self-awareness and understand the dries behind their thoughts, behaviours and emotions. You will find empathy and compassion.

My first session

Identifying a therapist to work with can feel like a daunting task so I offer a free 20 minute conversation for you to get a feel of how I practice and who I am; call it an interview where you get to ask the questions.

If you feel that we can work together – we can find a time to scheduled an initial session which normally involves the client speaking about why they have come to therapy, what they maybe looking for. It’s also a change for me to get to know a little more about them.

And if the response is “I don't know what has really brought me here” - that's absolutely fine - we can work on that together.

I’m a firm believer that there is no such thing as a stupid question, so please do get in touch via email or text if you have any questions.
