Availability

I offer online or telephone sessions. I'm very flexible with times and days and happy to work Saturdays and Sundays and late evenings (up to 9pm the last session) to fit in around people with busy lives, jobs and families. Obviously online sessions allow you, the client,  more flexibility ,  I will give you as much notice as possible if I need to take time off.

About me and my therapy practice

I was a Registered Nurse for over 20 years, and qualified inintegrative counselling from the Iron Mill College. I work integratively but have a firm base of person centred theory at the core of my work, but with aspects of existentialism and attachment theory. Including therapeutic creativity as I've noticed it gives a voice to those that are unable to demonstrate vocally what they want to say. It is important that you feel safe and secure at all times during the counselling process, whether you choose to have in person or online therapy. I believe that it is my role to ensure that I provide a space that you can be open and honest at all times. Therapy can be hard, I'm not going to lie! It can be very draining on the body and mind, but I believe that with a lot of psychoeducation ( why the body reacts in a particular way to emotional trauma), strategies and coping skills, you, the client, will learn how to not just function in the world you live in, but to thrive and enjoy all that life has to offer.I have an interest in internal family systems and how our direct past has affected how we are in the present but also how generations that have gone before us have played a role in our behaviour and how we see ourselves in our family and the identities that have been developed as we grow up. Although talking therapies are very effective and can work for the majority of people, however, on occasions it can be difficult to put our emotions into words and we can become "stuck" and not knowing how to assign words to how we feel. This is why I am an advocate of creative therapies, they have a way of unblocking the disconnectness that we have with our minds and bodies.

With a large 'toolbox' of strategies and recognition of what can help or hinder, I also believe that experiencing challenging times can help create resilience, strength, courage, autonomy and enhancing self-awareness.

Practice description

I will listen with an empathic non-judgemental ear and be completely genuine at all times. Everything you say to me will be confidential, which will enable us to build a trusting, warm therapeutic relationship. I provide a holistic environment for you to explore the issues and problems that have bought you to see me. I will provide you with a secure safe space to be able to bring whatever you wish and say whatever you want to say. Together we can develop an individualised plan to work on your goals of therapy. I believe that counselling is collaborative, and I will ask for feedback and how I can change to better improve your experience as this will enhance your therapeutic experience.

I passionately believe that through working in an integrative way, you will be able to build on your self confidence, esteem and carry the skills you have developed in our counselling sessions out into life in a positive way!

My first session

In the first session, we will explore what you want to achieve from counselling and discuss what has bought you here. We will look at the Counselling contract and answer any questions that you may have, ensuring there is no concerns or errors going forward. I will ask you to complete a short health questionnaire beforehand and I will check that all of the information is still the same.
