I continue to practise remotely in light of the ongoing pandemic, with sessions taking place via Zoom and/or telephone. Please get in touch if you would like therapy but have reservations about remote sessions - I will do my best to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
I have flexibility with regards to my availability although I currently have limited sessions available in the late afternoon/early evening due to high demand for these times. Please feel free to get in touch to ask me about days/times currently available.
About me and my therapy practice
Are you experiencing low mood, feeling anxious or unhappy with your life and struggling in silence?
Maybe you are reading this feeling you need more support to work through past difficulties, present challenges or are worried about aspects of your future.
Perhaps you are seeking support with improving your self-esteem, want to develop your ability to handle stress or feeling lost, have a desire to experience healthier relationships or develop greater self-awareness and self-reliance.
Folks like yourself come to therapy for lots of different reasons and many find talking through issues and/or events very helpful.
I use a therapeutic approach that puts you at the centre of your process of change. This Person-Centred Approach means that I work alongside you and use my therapeutic skills to help you to focus on the issues that really matter to you.
I will support you to express how you are feeling and I will be led by you and the issues you bring. You set the pace you are most comfortable with and you can end therapy whenever the time feels right for you.
I am committed to:

• creating a safe, comfortable and confidential space, free of any judgement, in which you can openly express yourself to acknowledge and explore emotional disturbances; and,

I am an LGBTQI+ affirmative practitioner and I am currently a volunteer counsellor with the LGBT Foundation in Manchester. Wherever you place yourself on the gender and/or sexuality spectrum, you are most welcome!
My personal and professional experiences, including 20+ years working within social care environments, have provided me with invaluable opportunities to gain a deep appreciation of the value of feeling heard and experiencing validation, and the significance of this for positive mental health.
In my practise as a counsellor/psychotherapist, I value each client as unique, with individual thoughts, feelings and experiences of life and living, and worthy of recognition.
I encourage clients to explore difficulties that may be hindering them in their daily life, and this process of self-exploration can lead to a range of beneficial outcomes, such as an improvement in self-esteem, confidence and a greater degree of self-awareness and self-reliance.
While I cannot offer any guarantees (no therapist can) in terms of individual outcomes, I do pledge to work alongside you with patience and compassion, to support you towards realising the next chapter in your life.
I am a qualified Counsellor/Psychotherapist having successfully completed the University of Salford BACP accredited Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy – Professional Training programme.
I am a registered member (MBACP) of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I adhere fully to the BACP Ethical Framework.
I am also a registered member of the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) (Reg.: ZA841786). I handle all client information with great care and due diligence and store all records, both in paper and electronic format, securely in strict accordance with GDPR requirements and ICO guidelines.
I have Enhanced Certification with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and I am fully insured as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist through the Psychologists Protection Society (PPS).
I am also a Certified Online and Telephone Counselling Practitioner.
My first session
Approaching a therapist for the first time can be daunting and difficult for some. I fully appreciate that meeting someone new to talk about deeply personal thoughts and feelings can create anxiety.
In order for you to get a greater sense of how I work and my approach, I offer a free, no obligation 20-minute session (either via telephone or Zoom) to provide you with an opportunity to see if we are a good therapy ‘match’.
During this initial, pre-therapy session you will also be able to share your thoughts about what is bringing you to therapy and any outcomes you would like to achieve for yourself.
It is my intention that this session will offer you the information and transparency you need to make an informed choice before starting your therapy.
If you decide you would like to start therapy with me, we will arrange our first session and I will send you my Client/Counsellor Agreement which outlines what we can expect from each other. If you have any literacy/accessibility needs, we can work through this together.
In light of the ongoing restrictions as a result of the pandemic, I am currently offering remote therapy, either via Zoom (a secure audio/video platform which is free to download and easy to navigate) or via telephone. If you have any concerns around these formats, please let me know.
I will be offering face-to-face sessions when it is safe to do so in the long-term.
Of course, if you decide I am not the right therapist for you I will completely respect your decision and help you in any way I can to support you in finding a more suitable therapist for your needs.
