About me and my therapy practice
My name is Diane, I work with people who feel stressed or anxious to help them make sense of their situation & find a new way forwards.
After having a number of years counselling skills experience at work, I finally trained to become a counsellor after having therapy in order to come to terms with loss and relationship issues.
My counselling experience includes working with people who have experienced domestic and sexual abuse, working with people who are coming to terms with loss, relationship issues, substance misuse, stress and low self-esteem.
I originally trained as a Person Centred counsellor. Because of this, I feel that the relationship between counsellor and client is really important, respect is at the centre of how I work. During sessions I work hard to help the client feel at ease, I work at their pace, and I am led by what is important to them. My aim is to provide a compassionate presence where clients feel heard and valued without judgement.
Since qualifying, I have also attended training in other disciplines, including Polyvagal Theory and the use of creative techniques. This additional training has given me the skills to work in ways that can be adapted to suit the needs of the individual client.
Talking to a counsellor can help clients to reduce distress, make sense of their difficulties and feel understood. Counselling is a place where clients can share their innermost thoughts without fear of judgement. When this happens, and they are free to express themselves, they are able to find a new way forward.
During Covid I have moved my practice online, this means that my sessions take place on a video platform or over the telephone. Which ever way you choose, I am still passionate about providing an environment where you can feel heard, and safe to explore the issues that are concerning you without fear of judgment.
My first session
I understand that reaching out to a counsellor is a significant investment. Because of this, I offer a free, initial telephone consultation without any obligation. This session gives you the chance to ask any questions that you might have, these might be about counselling in general, or around working remotely. Some people also find this time useful as it gives us the opportunity to get to know each other a little better.
