About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Diane and I am a qualified and experienced counsellor. I help people who are struggling with trauma or difficult relationships, to make sense of their feelings, and find a new way forwards.
Through experience, I have found that talking to a counsellor can help clients gain a greater understanding of their thoughts and feelings. Working with someone who won't judge what you say, can help you to feel really heard and valued. It can also help to reduce your distress and develop your self-compassion. When this happens, clients are able to explore new ways forward that feel right for them.
After a number of years using counselling skills in my work, I trained to become a counsellor after having therapy to come to terms with relationship issues.
I originally trained as a Person Centred counsellor. Because of this, I feel that the relationship between counsellor and client is really important. Respect is at the centre of how I work, during sessions I work hard to help people feel at ease, I work at their pace, and I am led by what is important to them. My aim is to provide a compassionate presence, where clients can feel safe to talk about their emotions without fear of judgement.
Since qualifying, I have also attended training in other disciplines, including Polyvagal Theory and the use of creative techniques. Both of these techniques can be useful for working with trauma, and this training has given me additional skills to meet each client's individual needs.
In addition to my private practice, I also work for a local organisation providing specialist domestic abuse counselling. My previous counselling experience has also included working with men and women who have experienced sexual abuse, working with those experiencing addiction, working with loss, relationship issues, stress and low self-esteem.
I am now offering face-to-face sessions in an environment that meets covid guidelines. It is socially distanced and well ventilated, while at the same time feeling warm, cozy, and private. In addition, I also offer remote sessions over Zoom or the telephone.
Whichever way you choose, I am passionate about providing an environment where you can feel heard, and safe to explore the issues that are concerning you without fear of judgment.
My first session
I understand that the relationship between the client and the counsellor is really important, sometimes it can just be useful to get a feeling of what it might be like talking to the other person before you commit to working with them.
Because of this, I offer a free, 30-minute telephone consultation without any obligation. This session gives you the chance to ask any questions that you might have, and for us to get to know each other a little better.
I can understand that it can be difficult reaching out for the first time, but please be assured that anything you say will be treated with respect.
