About me and my therapy practice

LIMITED AVAILABILITY PLEASE EMAIL FIRST DIRECTLY

I offer in person, face to face and online counselling: Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, WhatsApp or mobile/phone.

Questions you may be asking yourselves: Will my relationships always be like this? How can we/I overcome the past & familiar patterns? Why did they have an affair? When will we be intimate again? Are we still in love? Should we separate? Am I a bad person? Why do I feel sad? What’s this anxiety about? Is this depression?

My passion is to support and walk alongside my clients experience of uncertainty & change - from couples & individuals who feel it's make or break to families in conflict. As a specialist relationship counsellor, I can help you navigate the challenges and fears you face together or alone. I've been featured on BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p06hfxg9

In my work, I see people struggling with how they communicate - often this can be symptomatic of something else, from infidelity, depression to sexual or family issues. The same patterns keep repeating. I can help you break this cycle. Using my insights and expertise, I work with your issues to move you forward and "stop you being stuck".

Together we find new ways of being, with tools to help you manage better and navigate life’s twists and turns. I guide you to dig deeper and look beyond your behaviour and emotions, so you feel you're more in control.

Whatever stage you're in, feeling stressed, confused or needing clarity, I would like to help. I recently moved back north after being in London. Sheffield is where I grew up & I love it. I invite individuals, couples, families of all backgrounds to get in touch.

Practice description

As a counsellor, my practice and how I am accessed by people is hugely important to me - particularly, NOW, during this global health pandemic.

The online/virtual world is going to be everyone's saving grace - allowing people to connect and gain help, support and guidance. My practice is usually in person (with some online). But now, it is all online counselling - to assist in managing the spread of the Coronavirus. Once it is safe, I will be able to see people face to face, in person at my home again.

Being trained in many different psychological theories, from psychodynamic to mindfulness, I will adapt and fuse my training according to the needs of the people I work with - to be of most benefit to them. Whilst working as a counsellor for Relate, I’ve gained a solid foundation & network that supports and informs my private practice. I work in an ethical manner, which is why I have a private supervisor (BACP accredited member) and take part in regular continuous professional learning.

In the past, I worked with a charity, supporting parents, the elderly & vulnerable adults with issues such as pregnancy, IVF, trauma, depression, anxiety, isolation, eating disorders, abuse, personality difficulties, race, age, gender & sexuality.

For families and couples - there are online tools, such as Zoom, FaceTime and WhatsApp video that all allow more than two people to communicate if in different locations. As a couple or individual doing online counselling, it's simply a matter of positioning your laptops, ipads or phones on a stand or against something where both of you can be seen  - which all makes sense once we start - I will help you with this.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch and talk through how online counselling works and could adapt to your situation.

My first session

Our first session, is always your time to tell your story and be heard. You can ask any questions that you have and get to feel what it is like to talk to someone, such as myself, in a completely non-judgemental and confidential way.

I will contract with you in the first session, discuss what confidentiality and data protection mean, time boundaries, payment and cancellations. I will email over this information before the first session and then ask you to sign the agreement that you have understood what confidentiality means. I provide the forms in session for you to do this.

In addition, the first consultation is to allow you to absorb and work out if you are happy to carry on or not. There is no obligation to continue.

But most importantly, the first session sets up the beginning of your process to seek change, understand your issues and find a way forward that helps you become unstuck and breathe again.
