About me and my therapy practice

About me

I am an experienced psychodynamic counsellor and psychotherapist, CBT and Gender Sexuality and Relationship Diverse (GSRD) therapist with a demonstrated history of working with mental health and wellbeing in different sectors such as private practice, NHS and the charitable sector. Organisations that I worked for are:

• the Cassel Centre which is a charity in South East London

• The Law Medical Group Practice (LMGP) which is part of the Central and North West London (CNWL) NHS Foundation Trust - Brent Talking Therapies

• the ELOP – East London Out Project

• the Albany Trust

I have experience in working with individuals who identify as transgender, non-binary, genderqueer, gender-questioning, genderfluid and gender-fluid, and other people that don't fit in these labels. I offer therapy for anyone who wants to explore their identity, regardless of whether they are considering or undergoing transition and can support you on your personal journey.

I offer a safe and non-judgemental environment in which you can explore these issues. I think that connecting with my clients therapeutically enables me to fully understand their perception of the key issues affecting their lives.

Training

My qualifications include an Introduction to Counselling Skills at Lambeth College. The CH Education in Counselling & Counselling Skills, Foundation Degree in Psychodynamic Counselling & CBT, BSc in Short-term Psychodynamic Counselling & CBT and MSc Psychodynamic Counselling & Psychotherapy at the Birkbeck College University of London. Advanced Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling with the Counselling Tutor.

I attended the Pink Therapy 'Working with Sexuality & Relationship Diversities (GSRD) clients' and I became an accredited Pink Therapy GSRD-Aware Trainer. I attended the Gendered Intelligence training 'Working Alongside Trans, Gender Diverse and Questioning People'.

Services

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Psychodynamic psychotherapy works on exploring how your early childhood experiences and early relationships can shape your present relationships and circumstances, creating repeated patterns of relationships. These patterns are still present in your adult life even though you are unaware of them and they may no longer reflect your adult experiences. Being more aware of these patterns and how they impact the way in which you see the world and your position in it will help you to change this perception in a way that assists you better.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. It is a "problem-focused" and "action-oriented" form of therapy, meaning it is used to treat specific problems related to some diagnosed mental conditions.

CBT is based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a vicious cycle.

Gender Sexuality & Relationship Diverse (GSRD) Therapy

Gender Sexuality & Relationship Diversities (GSRD) is a more inclusive term to replace the acronym LGBTQ+. It includes lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans people, intersex, kink, non-monogamies, sex workers, asexual, non-binary and other gender non-conforming people, as well as those who feel generally excluded in discussions of LGBTQ+ issues.

Online/Telephone Therapy

Online/Telephone therapy refers to therapy conducted via the internet or telephone. Some people may prefer to use video conferencing so that we can see each other as we speak, and some may prefer to use just audio. I encourage you to try video conferencing and I will support you in the transition by answering any questions.

Practice description

I am counsellor and psychotherapist in London and I offer Brief Psychodynamic Counselling, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and a Gender Sexuality and Relationship Diverse (GSRD)* therapy or the combination of them tailored accordingly to the clients’ needs.

Psychodynamic counselling includes exploring how our childhood experiences and early relationships can shape our present relationships and circumstances, creating patterns of relating and our own sense of self. These patterns, even though we are unaware of them and they may no longer reflect our adult experiences, are still present in our adult life. By being more aware of these patterns and how they impact the way in which we see the world, and our position in it, we can change this perception of the world in a way which assists us to live improved and better lives. I work one-on-one in order to fully support my clients to gain improved self-understanding so that they are then able to make more appropriate life choices and live more wholly. This process may involve uncovering the deeper origins of difficulties by exploring experiences, feelings, dreams, desires and patterns of relating that are contributing to present difficulties.

I may integrate psychodynamic counselling with gender and sexual diversity therapy and supportive counselling.

I am experienced psychotherapist working with clients who identify themselves as LGBT+ and those who are questioning, gender queer, trans and non-binary clients. I have experience of working with clients who do not use labels to define their sexuality or identity.

I abide by the BACP and BPC Code of Ethics and am DBS checked.
