About me and my therapy practice
Thank you for taking the time to look at my page. My name is Karen Livermore, I am a qualified counsellor and member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and I work within their ethical framework and boundaries. I offer independent counselling to children, young people and adults face to face, online and Telephone.
There are a several reasons for that people seek counselling, you may be worried, anxious, overwhelmed, feel stuck and cannot move forward. Counselling is a place where you are able to work through and explore any issues that are causing you worry and anxiety. I can offer you a place to be heard understood, without feeling judged or criticized. Counselling can be the first step towards change and a more positive future.
One of the aims of counselling is to be able to explore yourself so that you can begin to work toward healing and recovery. I can work with you to enable you to have a better understanding of yourself and your relationships.
My counselling practice draws on strengths from an Integrative approach of therapy, including humanistic, psychodynamic and solution focus. I like to work holistically to integrate mind and body.
I offer both daytime and evening appointments and work in a pleasant location in Coulsdon and the surrounding areas.

I have many years’ experience counselling children, teenagers as well as adults. I have been working in both primary and secondary schools, as well as in the local community for several years and have extensive experience working with a wide range of complex issues. These included: depression, anxiety, panic disorders/attacks, low self-esteem/confidence, loss and separation/self-harm, work related stress, and anger.
Are you worried or concerned about your child, children can have worries and problems, but they do not have the right vocabulary to be able to express themselves. Counselling offers a safe environment for children to express their feelings and understand what may have caused them to feel this way. Speaking to a counsellor, away from their home and school life, can take away some of the pressure.
I can a safe and confidential space for Counselling for Teenagers. Teenagers can often have the pressures of school, their social lives and the general confusion that comes with growing up, very often teenagers can occasionally feel a little overwhelmed. Counselling can help them talk things through, support them without making them feel judged.
I understand many of the issues and problems that young people and teenagers are faced with and my aim is to provide an opportunity for them to explore thoughts and feelings that may be causing emotional distress. I offer this in a confidential, caring and private environment.
I can a safe and confidential space for Counselling Adults. I appreciate that all obstacles can feel overwhelming at times. Everyone needs support at some time in their life. People seek counselling because they may be experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, loneliness, anger, experiencing loss, and feeling overwhelmed and finding it hard to cope. Talking to someone who is Impartial and non-judgemental can help to discover different ways of looking at the situation.
My first session
New clients receive an initial assessment before proceeding. This appointment is for around 60 minutes to allow you to talk about what brings you to counselling. It is an opportunity to think about your difficulties and consider what support will be most helpful for you.
When working with children or young person, I meet with parents or guardians for an initial consultation and together decide if counselling sessions would be useful. I will then meet with your child or teenager to try to get an understanding of the problem from their perspective.
The assessment is an opportunity to ask questions and exchange information. The consultation works as an assessment to decide which intervention would be suitable for the child, teenager or yourself. This usually takes around 60 minutes.
