About me and my therapy practice

How I work:

I work online, by telephone and in-person.

If you are in emotional pain I aim to help you by being there for you in our sessions to understand and support you through your emotional journey: by not judging you, but by accepting that you – the way you are – are worthy of care and consideration. I aim through my counselling to help you to understand that you too are worthy and help you to come to terms with why you feel or act in a certain way to help you to gain a sense of self-worth and self-acceptance; and by being able to let go of feelings and behaviours that are bringing you down. We will work together to help you become more self-aware and so more self-accepting.

I work to the professional and ethical standards of the BACP, ensuring that I can give you the safe, confidential service you require to grow, and am constantly updating and increasing my professional knowledge to ensure I provide a warm and effective counselling service for you.

I’m a fully qualified, experienced Counsellor with over 10 years’ experience helping individuals, couples and groups in private practice, in colleges and in charity settings.

I believe in helping my clients understand the reasons behind their behaviours and issues so that they can work through them and become more content and balanced people.

I’m a fully trained member of the BACP and my 10 years’ experience has been supplemented with training in Online and Telephone Counselling.

I am a person-centred counsellor – which means I listen to your problems and work to understand your world from your point of view. Together we explore why you think and behave the way you do, and through that understanding relationship, work together to help you to become the person that you want to be. As we work together, I aim, as your counsellor, to allow you to understand, accept and deal with the issues which have been holding you back, and in doing so reach a new level of self-awareness and self-acceptance.

Practice description

My practice

Do you feel sad and alone? Anxious or angry all the time, and don’t know why? Do you have a trauma or a history of abuse that is weighing you down? As if no-one understands how you feel? Do you feel the need to hide behind a smile while you feel like no-one would ever accept you?

Person-centred Counselling can you help you through these negative feelings. As a person-centred counsellor I can help you understand why you feel the way you do and help you – through self-awareness – to gain a better sense of self-acceptance and to feel more in control.

We would work together in a safe, private environment – either online or face-to-face, with our sessions being confidential – within certain legal and professional limits which will be explained. I can provide a setting where you will feel safe and cared for, to enable you to fully participate in the emotional growth that Counselling provides, in a supportive environment.

Person-centred Counselling is based on empathy and honesty. As your Counsellor I aim to be with you on your journey to self-acceptance, being with you while you explore the pain and anguish you feel. I do this by accepting you as you are, walking beside you on your journey, by understanding you and helping you to understand yourself. I believe that once we can understand why we feel and act a certain way then we can work to stop these feelings and behaviours from holding us back.

When you first contact me we will talk about whether I am the Counsellor for you and we will arrange a convenient time for a session. I can be very flexible, and work around your needs.

My first session

When you first contact me we will talk about whether I am the Counsellor for you and we will arrange a convenient time for a session and whether you want to work online by video, by telephone, or in-person. I can be very flexible, and work around your needs.

I will explain the contract for our Counselling explaining how it works, and we will decide together how to work towards your goal whether it be a specific goal or whether you want simply to be able to talk about your feelings and experiences in order to understand them and yourself better.

After our first session then you will decide if you wish a further appointment, and that way you will decide on a weekly basis how long you wish to continue for - the journey is yours, you decide the direction, I am there to support you on your journey.

Practice description

Do you feel sad and alone? Anxious all the time, and don’t know why? Do you have a trauma or a history of abuse that is weighing you down? As if no-one understands how you feel?

Person-centred Counselling can you help you through these negative feelings. As a person-centred counsellor I can help you understand why you feel the way you do, and help you – through self-awareness – to gain a better sense of self-acceptance and to feel more in control.

Counselling is a listening service – being able to unburden yourself to someone who won’t judge and who will be with you while you explore your feelings. I can also, whilst still operating in a person-centred way, offer parts of other useful therapies, where my client wishes, incorporating for example, some elements of Cognitive Based Therapy and Art Therapy.

If you are in emotional pain I aim to help you by being there for you in our sessions to understand and support you through your emotional journey: by not judging you, but by accepting that you, the way you are, are worthy of care and consideration.

My first session

The first time you contact me, we will discuss the practicalities of working together – and if you have a particular issue which I feel would be better dealt with through another approach – then I will tell you. I do not prescribe a minimum number of sessions, I want you to feel comfortable with working with me, and wish for you to be in control of your own journey, so to allow this we will evaluate our counselling relationship as we go along to ensure I am giving you a good service, and never lose track that the aim is for you to be a more balanced, happy person in control of your own feelings and behaviours.

I am trained in Online and Telephone Counselling as well as In-person Counselling which I undertake in Moffat, Dumfries & Galloway. My fee is competitive and will be discussed at first contact. I provide sessions online – on a secure video platform, by telephone, or in-person in Moffat where I live. I can provide both evening and weekend sessions to ensure we can find a convenient time for you.

We would work together in a safe, private environment – either online or face-to-face, with our sessions being confidential – within certain legal and professional limits which will be explained.
