About me and my therapy practice
I qualified as an Art Psychotherapist in 2009 and worked for 8 years in the community delivering art therapy in schools, hospitals, and care homes. My main area of research is in eating disorders and I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as an Art Therapist and with the British Association of Art Therapists.
My training was essentially psychodynamic but since qualifying I have completed multiple further trainings that have informed how I work and I continue to update my clinical expertise regularly. I have worked over many clinical settings and this has given me many therapeutic tools that I can use to tailor the intervention to each clients needs.
I work from a large, comfortable consulting room which is on the ground floor of a beautiful old georgian house in central St Ives. It is private, quiet and relaxing.
Sometimes words can be hard to find so as an art psychotherapist I offer a range of art/play materials and the opprotunity to use them as a way into exploring sensitive issues. Any artwork created during sessions is kept confidentially in a secure cabinet.
My first session
The first session is a time where we will meet and perhaps explore the initial reasons that you are seeking therapy at this time. It is also a time for you to see if you feel comfortable with me and if I am the right person for you to work with going forward. Starting therapy can feel like a big step so its important that it feels comfortable and safe to you. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask me any questions that you may have and see how I work. We can then decide together if I and my therapeutic approach will be helpful to you and if you would like to start working together.
