About me and my therapy practice

I work with people who are trying to making sense of their place in the world, exploring questions of meaning, purpose and identity.

If you're considering therapy, you may know what you want to work on, but feel stuck, frustrated, or in need of some help. You may know that something's not right, but not know where to start.

I specialise in working with people with ADHD and other diagnosed or suspected neurodivergent conditions.

I've been working with neurodiverse people in various settings for most of my career (15 years). I've been socialising with neurodiverse people for most of my life.

I avoid practices of pathologising, condescending, or coercing.

Psychotherapy is a space for you to discuss what's on your mind in a non-judgemental collaborative setting. My job as a therapist is to help you explore and reflect on your situation, hearing your point of view with compassion, honesty, and respect.

This is a chance to tell your story, and make sense of what it means.

Practice description

Humanistic

The foundation of my approach is Humanistic (A.KA. person centred). This basically means that your experience of your life is the most important subject of therapy. You have the perspective and capacity to understand your world better than anyone else.

A key principle of this perspective is that everyone has the ability to move towards what's best for them, given the right conditions - the aim of therapy is to provide these conditions.

I'm here to help you explore and reflect on your situation, hearing your point of view with compassion, authenticity, and respect.

Collaborative

I work collaboratively. This means forming a shared understanding of what's going on for you - your current circumstances, what you want to change, and what's getting in the way.

My job is to help you tackle themes like these as clearly and authentically as possible, providing a safe and creative environment for growth and exploration.

I aim to meet you where you are - to help understand your current ways of being in the world. Integrating new understanding with your current worldview.

Integrative

Building on a collaborative foundation, we can use specific theories and frameworks as tools to help understand your current ways of being in the world, and solve particular problems.

There are many therapeutic approaches that can inspire change and insight, depending on how you want to make sense of your situation, and what questions might provide satisfactory answers.

Some of the approaches I draw from are:

  • Existential - How do you make sense of yourself in the world?
  • Narrative - What stories to you tell to interpret of your situation?
  • Occupational Therapy - How do you engage with your life and your endeavours? When do you feel worthwhile?
  • Internal dialogue - How are you talking to yourself about yourself? How are you describing your situation? How do you talk to yourself when nobody can hear?
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - How do your thoughts, emotions, and actions interact with one and other?

My first session

Free Initial Consultation

- It's important to make an informed choice and find the right therapist for you, so I'm happy to offer a free 20 minute initial consultation.

- This is an opportunity to ask me any questions you have about therapy and what it would be like to work together, and make sure you feel it's a good fit.
