About me and my therapy practice

Counselling is a non-judgemental therapeutic process. This involves me listening to you and us working together to overcome the personal obstacles and challenges you are facing or fearing.

I am an Integrative Counsellor incorporating: Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic, Creative Therapy and Gestalt.

Upon making initial contact there will be a free telephone consultation. This is where you will have the opportunity to share what is happening for you. After listening to you I will explain how I work and what you can expect from therapy.

At this point we will book a convenient time for our first face to face session. This will be held either online or at a suitable space within the community. I will usually email or post my privacy policy and contract for you to read through ready to bring to your first session. If you have any questions, I am very happy to answer them.

Our first session is where the work really starts to begin, I will listen to you as you share your story in more detail. It is important to note that as the counsellor I do not give advice, together we look at each perspective and talk about how you feel about them before you make any decision. You are in full control of the session.

Therapy is about relationship; it is important you feel at ease in the room. The information you share with me is kept confidential.

At times in our sessions I may use creative therapy. I will explain in full of what I plan to do and with your consent will move forward with the planned intervention. Again, noting that you are in full control of every session.

Having served in the Royal Engineers within the Armed Forces I have a great understanding of the terminology used. I also have first-hand experience of the pressures that are upon service personnel and their families whilst serving their country both home and overseas.
