About me and my therapy practice
I am a psychotherapist working in Leicester City. In addition to my private practice I work as a Practice Therapist and Case Manager with Rutland House Counselling and Psychotherapy ltd in Leicester (RHCP). I also work with RHCP as an Associate Independent Practitioner. I have a private practice in the west of the City.
Currently I am seeing clients remotely but hope to offer in person sessions again soon. I have a ‘Certificate in Cyberspace Therapy’ and offer video, telephone, email and chat contact. Some people find remote sessions more convenient or an easier route into therapy. If this is you feel free to make contact to enquire.
You may have been thinking about approaching a counsellor or psychotherapist for some time. It can feel really daunting to approach someone to talk about the problems you are experiencing. Some people put it off because they feel they should be able to deal with the issues bothering them by themselves. At some point in our lives we all experience distressing events, difficult feelings or relationships and a little support at those times can go a long way.
My aim is to provide a safe space in which you feel able to explore your personal difficulties and find a way through these for yourself. My role is to help you through this process without judgment or telling you what to do. If I think it would be helpful, I may provide information or offer suggestions. I work in collaboration with you on specific goals we discussed at the initial assessment. Throughout our time together we will review progress towards an ending based on an agreed number of sessions or if the therapy is open ended, regular reviews will be part of the process to ensure you needs are being met and how the progress you feel you had made.
It is important that you feel comfortable with your therapist or counsellor. It does take time to build trust in a relationship but sometimes we sense a particular person is not right for us either at the first contact or after a couple of sessions. I will encourage you to decide for if you feel I am the right person for you, and it is fine for you to say at the outset or subsequently if you decide I’m not. I will also let you know if I don’t feel I am the best person to help with your particular problems. In these circumstances I will do my best to point you towards other avenues of more appropriate help and support.
My first session
Our first contact will be a via email or telephone I will ask you about the problems you are experiencing and for how long. I will also ask what your hopes and expectation are from having therapy and if you have had help before. If we decide I may be able to help we can arrange an intial assessment meeting either in person, via video link or telephone. The first session is quite structured, I will ask for more in-depth information about your current situation, your life experiences including your, relationships, lifestyle, mental and physical health and emotional well being. I will ask you to give your informed consent to the client contract that I will provide. If you decide you would like to continue. I will ask you to provide the contact details of your GP and an emergency contact person.
Once these formalities are done future sessions will be shaped by what you what you want to bring.
