About me and my therapy practice

I have over 20 years experience working as a counsellor, including 13 years working in a counselling service in the NHS, and believe in working in an holistic way, counselling people rather than problems. I believe positive change and growth comes when you are given the opportunity to engage in a process that helps you develop new awareness and value for yourself. I find that this helps you develop the emotional resources you need to reduce your emotional distress, and the symptoms that have prompted you to seek counselling.

Practice description

I am trained in the person-centred approach and my counselling is influenced by humanistic values in therapy, which means the focus is very much about trusting in your own emotional resources, helping you to develop them and gain the awareness you need to make changes in your life to feel more positive and happier with your life and relationships.  The focus of the therapy is engaging on an emotional level, processing blocked emotions and becoming more open emotionally, to yourself and others.  It is also about improving communication, whether this is with your own emotions or with others.  It is a collaborative process in which you take the lead.

My first session

The first session is very much about getting a sense of each other, developing a rapport and identifying what has brought you to counselling at this time and what you hope to gain from the counselling.  No first session is the same, as everyone comes with different needs.  Every counselling process is unique.  By the end of the first session you will hopefully have a sense that you have been listened to and understood.  You will hopefully feel you can gain benefit from continuing with a counselling process.  It will be your choice and your decision to continue with the counselling.

About me and my therapy practice

I was trained in and remain committed to the person-centred approach in counselling apply the same principles as a supervisor.  I first qualified as a supervisor in 2009 and work with experienced counsellors, trainee counsellors and professionals in jobs that benefit from supervision.

How I deliver therapy:

As stated I work in a person-centred way, being active and present in the process with my clients. As a supervisor I strive to offer a safe, supportive and faciliative environment that enables my supervisees to bring and explore whatever is important to them with regard to their client work and their development as a counsellor.

What I can help with:

I have almost 20 years experience as a counsellor working in various settings including a Women’s Centre, CRUSE, IAPT NHS Counselling Service and Private Practice.  The majority of my work is with adults presenting with a wide variety of presenting issues and differing levels of emotional distress and capacity to engage in a counselling process.  I also have experience of working with couples.

I charge £40 an hour/£60 for an hour and a half.

Practice description

I offer supervision to experienced and newly qualified counsellors who wish to experience a collaborative and supportive supervision experience.  I expect supervisees to take responsibility for their supervision needs and engage in reflective practice to gain insight and growth that will contribute to their capacity to be congruent in their relationships wit their clients.

My first session

The first supervision session will hopefully help establish a rapport and establish what the supervisee is seeking from supervision.  I strive to offer supervision in a way that meets the supervisee's needs.
