About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Jen.
The thought of counselling can be daunting. It takes time to gain trust. I work in a way which will help you feel relaxed and at ease, offering support and encouragement. Counselling can allow your feelings and thoughts to be validated, and can make a real difference to people's lives.
At times in life it can feel that people don't understand us, like we are being judged for the way we feel, like we should be able to ‘just get on with things’.
You may be feeling lonely and isolated, like you are the only one who feels like you do.You may have feelings of being ‘stuck’ or 'lost' and unsure of why or what you can do to change it.
You may be having trouble sleeping, waking up with an overwhelming feeling of anxiety.
Maybe you can't escape feelings of ‘not being good enough’ and it's having an impact on your day to day life.
Maybe you are feeling angry or frustrated. You don't need to be alone with your thoughts. Counselling can help.
Practice description
You may be feeling lonely and isolated, like you are the only one who feels like you do.
You may have feelings of being ‘stuck’ or 'lost' and unsure of why or what you can do to change it.
You may be having trouble sleeping, waking up with an overwhelming feeling of anxiety, wondering how you can face the day ahead.
Maybe you can't escape feelings of ‘not being good enough’ and it's having an impact on your day to day life.
Perhaps you are feeling angry or frustrated and you want to be able to respond differently to certain situations.
Counselling allows you time to develop a deeper understanding of yourself, an opportunity to learn to live life more freely, reconnecting with yourself in a safe and non-judgmental space.
Counselling can help to increase your confidence, as well as increase your self-awareness, and self-acceptance.
I have worked for over 20 years with people with learning difficulties, autism, and physical disabilities. It is important to me that as a counsellor, I am still able to make a difference to peoples lives.
As well as my private work, I also volunteer for several organisations, providing counselling to survivors of abuse, predominently childhood sexual abuse, as well as providing caller support to people in distress.
I have a BSc (Hons) in Counselling, where I chose to focus on PTSD and grief and loss. I have extensive experience of working with clients who have experienced traum, as well as working with suicidal ideation and self harm.
My first session
The first session is an opportunity for us to begin developing a trusting and open relationship with each other.
We will go through a counselling agreement/ contract which provides us both with clear boundaries for our work together.
I will take a few details such as contact details, and then the session is a chance for you to begin to explore what you want it is you want to with no pressure to talk about anything that you don't want to.
