About me and my therapy practice
Perhaps you're going through something that's just too big to untangle alone, or maybe you feel you've got stuck and don't know how to move on from here. In my counselling practice I aim to create a sanctuary for my clients to retreat to within their present life, to come to a deeper clarity and discover new ways to move forward.
I am a pluralistic therapist which means that I offer a therapeutic approach which is bespoke to you, and also one that we envisage together. I have particular theoretical interests in existentialism, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (a 3rd wave CBT), psychodynamic and humanistic approaches. Each therapy is unique and I liken this to a journey - from where you were, to where you are, to where you're heading. My practice is change oriented - together we can plot a course. And central to my approach is that I accept you for who you are, and you may find that your knowledge of who you are, and how you are out there in the world, becomes clearer during therapy.
In addition to my clinical work I am a senior university lecturer in psychological therapies and mental health and I have a PhD based on modelling change in psychotherapy.
I can offer therapy for those struggling with depression, anxiety, family issues, feelings of aloneness, low self-esteem, bereavement and loss, physical symptoms and other health issues, spiritual concerns, fear of death and the search for meaning.
My practice is based in the heart of Wetherby. I can offer sessions in physical space - observing guidelines on keeping safe in the pandemic - and alternatively I am practising online using Zoom software (or telephone if you prefer).
