About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I am Marcela, a counsellor and psychotherapist dedicated to supporting you in whatever you are going through. I will also help you build the resilience to deal with future difficulties.
I want to acknowledge that looking for a therapist is not an easy decision; it's often the last resort when all other options fail. My approach is warm, caring, and honest, and I promise to do all I can to make the experience as positive as possible.
You might experience:
• Feeling overwhelmed, not knowing how to ‘switch off’ or in a low mood, tired, and unable to enjoy life.
• Having difficulty saying no, pleasing others instead.
• Difficulties in making decisions; therefore, you look to other people to validate your choices.
• You might find it challenging to ask for help, leaving you feeling alone.
• Sense that something is wrong, but you don’t know what.
• Or simply, you don’t know what else to do, feeling stuck.
I will help you navigate through difficulties and support you in making choices which are right for you. Together, we explore thoughts, feelings and behaviours to identify their origin and unhelpful patterns causing distress.
Through our work, you will understand your needs and gain the confidence to find answers within yourself.
As you learn more about yourself, you begin to create a life which feels more real to you. This will ease the struggles you are experiencing, strengthen your self-belief, improve relationships and open new possibilities.
My approach is integrative, which means I use a combination of theories and can adapt to your specific needs as you progress through therapy at your own pace.
I work from two locations within Newark NG24 in person and also online, to be accessible from further afield.

I offer a free 15-minute consultation where you can ask any questions. Should you decide to proceed further, we will book an initial assessment.
My first session
Our first session will last 50 minutes. This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to have the time and space to share your worries and ask any questions.
I will explain how I work and take a few notes, such as any previous experience with therapy, any medication you may be taking, who lives in your family and other relevant information.
The most important thing is to make you feel comfortable and safe, having a sense of being listened to. We discuss your hopes from our work together and whether I am the right therapist to help you achieve these. I am aware some clients are happy to share more and some very little in the first session, and that's ok. I want to reassure you that we'll go at your pace and that you don't need to speak about anything you might not be ready for.
If you'd like to give counselling a go, we can then arrange regular, weekly sessions lasting 50 minutes.
