My counselling work takes place in private offices in Barrow upon Soar. At the moment I have some availability within my practice - my working week is Monday-Thursday 10-7. I work face to face or online with clients via zoom and apart from one week off in August these days/times should be consistent going forward.
The first taster session will be an assessment to determine how we might work together. Assuming you'd like to continue, ordinarily I will then offer you therapy on an open-ended basis. Generally our 50 minute sessions will be held weekly at the same time on the same day on an on-going basis. I charge £50 per session for adults and £45 for concessions. I also conduct regular reviews of our work together which is a collaborative exercise and it helps to inform the way forward for the therapy.
You can also call me on 07546 081347 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right person to help.
All queries are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential and uses secure phone and email services.
About me and my therapy practice
Hi, Thank you for stopping at my page and for reaching out for help. I'm a person-centered therapist which means that the therapy is all about you, the client, who is an expert in their own life. I provide counselling for anxiety and bereavement in particular and also in Narcissistic Abuse Recovery & Support. My Christian belief and understanding is foundational to my counselling practice.
I work in accordance with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy's Ethical Framework. This Framework totally underpins my practice and reassures my clients that they are always in good hands and that I will provide and maintain a high level of professionalism to you throughout our counselling journey together.
I have regular Clinical Supervision which ensures that I am working ethically and professionally at all times and therefore looking after you the client's best interests at all times. In addition any data or notes I take are kept confidential in line with current government guidelines. Your full name will never be used, and you will not be traceable from any details I share.
Therapy is a safe confidential space. I will not share with anyone else what we talk about in our sessions (though you may do so of course), unless I think you or others are in danger, or if I am required to do so by law, but I would speak to you about this first, wherever possible and appropriate.
Our contact between sessions must be limited to practical arrangements (informing me of cancellations, etc) and you may end our sessions whenever you wish, but I suggest you give me at least two weeks notice, in order for us to think about the work we have done and explore what it means to end. I would also ask that you give as much notice as possible of holiday absences to ensure the smooth running of the counselling journey.
Thank you for your understanding.
My Christian belief and understanding of the dignity of the human person is foundational to my counselling practice. I have successfully worked with many people with differing beliefs and cultures and without exception treat each and every person equally, respectfully and as unique individuals .I work in a person-centered way which means that this therapy is all about you, the client, because you are the expert on your own life.
I hope that you will feel seen, heard, valued and understood. I offer a chance to reflect on the difficulties and problems you are experiencing in a safe and confidential environment, with someone from outside your day-to-day life.
I offer a warm therapeutic working relationship and strive to encourage and guide you throughout this process by really listening, offering empathy and compassion and motivating you to be the person you were called to be.
Working together I can help you to gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you understand why you act or react to them the way you do,and see how you can start to make better choices moving forward.
My first session
The first taster session will be a 'get to know each other' session which determines how we might work together. This is a free session and usually takes about fifteen minutes on zoom.
You are free to ask me any questions you wish about what is on offer or about myself personally. I will explain some parts of the Therapy Contract, which you will have to sign on our first proper session and do a quick assessment to ascertain your needs and help me to build up a picture of you and your life. This information is strictly confidential and will be stored securely. It can also be used a a record to come back to, in order to monitor changes and set goals.
Assuming you wish to continue in therapy we will arrange to meet for our first proper session where I will go through the Therapy Contract in full with you. This can be revised or reviewed at any time by either of us.
I'll also ask you to answer some background information questions and assessment questions to ascertain your current state of mind/mood etc.. and ask you to provide emergency contact details and GP details. Again this information is stored securely in a locked filing cabinet and is entirely confidential.
