About me and my therapy practice
I’m Lucy, a person-centred counsellor, committed to creating a welcoming and nonjudgemental space for you to share what’s on your mind and express yourself freely. I am empathic and compassionate and believe in the therapeutic relationship to promote healing, change and hope.
I respect each individual’s unique experiences and needs, and look to build a working relationship based on trust, honesty and collaboration. This enables us to work together to identify and reveal what is meaningful, empowering, and true for you.
I believe everyone has the capacity for growth and renewal, at whatever stage – it is often in the midst of struggle that glimmers of hope and new realisations can provide clarity, relief and direction.
I approach each session with flexibility, openness, patience – and a deep commitment to your well-being. As well as my private practice, I’m also a volunteer counsellor at the renowned mental health charity Mind, and 1-2-1 Counselling, who offer counselling in my local community.
I also draw on a range of other therapeutic modalities, such as body-work, voice-work, visualisation and meditation. I believe that therapy is not one size-fits-all, so I endeavour to work responsively in order to better meet your needs. I will not diagnose or tell you what you must do or offer unsolicited advice.
My experience as a voice coach and meditation facilitator has enhanced my understanding of the body-mind connection. Getting in touch with our physical body can provide further opportunities for self-understanding and greater healing – our bodies can reveal aspects that are hidden from our everyday awareness.
I am at home in the tangible everyday world and also very attuned to the symbolic and imaginal realms. I am interested in how the everyday and the imaginal work alongside each other in our lives. Perhaps giving voice to one aspect of ourselves can create connections we had not seen previously. Above all I am interested in seeing the world you live in.
Practice description
Sometimes life can be challenging. Sometimes we cannot turn to friends and loved ones for fear of burdening them. Sometimes we can’t see a way through on our own. In these times it can help to share and offload the weight of what we carry with someone whose job it is to listen.
Having the space to be honest and to speak freely can be powerful. It can help uncover what we really need, what is most important to us and what we want to do about it. When we are able to connect to our true feelings we can begin to heal. We can alleviate some of the pressure of maintaining or upholding what is untenable. As our mind, body and emotions are interlinked, when with what we work with one, we often make connections to the other. Having someone to believe in and work alongside you can help increase resilience and readiness for life, help us find solutions so that we don’t feel so alone.
