About me and my therapy practice
I offer help to people from all walks of life and backgrounds, supporting them to find meaning in life’s challenges and to work towards their personal goals for growth and change.
Therapy can be helpful in times of distress and crisis, but it is equally a space to learn more about yourself, to feel seen and less alone, and for support in managing relationships and change.
I provide a safe space where I will meet you with curiosity and sensitivity as I help you explore your inner world and life experiences, at times encouraging and at times challenging you in order to support your process. Throughout I will strive to understand your situation from your perspective.
My primary approach to counselling is Person-Centred, which places emphasis on every person’s capacity for change and growth given the right supportive conditions. As such, I see myself as a helpful companion to support you on your journey.
I have also trained in the Psychodynamic Approach and in Mindfulness and have experience with Solution Focused Therapy and Brief Therapy. I believe helpful ideas and insights can come from anywhere, whether that’s a psychological concept or a work of art. As such I engage with and integrate ideas from a variety of disciplines and approaches to support my practice and my understanding of the human experience.
I have been working therapeutically with adults and young people (16+) for over 10 years across different settings, as well as in private practice:
- Addiction counselling (DAPL in Fife)
- General counselling (PF Counselling Service, Health in Mind Craigmillar Counselling)
- Trauma-focused counselling (Health in Mind Trauma Counselling Line Scotland)
- Young adults and higher education counselling (PF Young Adult Counselling Service, University of Edinburgh Student Counselling Service)
My counselling and psychology qualifications are as follows:
- MSc Psychology of Mental Health (Conversion) (BPS accredited), University of Edinburgh, 2016-2018
- Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling (COSCA accredited), University of Edinburgh, 2012-2015
- MSc Counselling Studies, which included a Certificate in Counselling Skills (COSCA Accredited), University of Edinburgh, 2011-2012
*Important note: If you are currently a matriculated student at the University of Edinburgh, unfortunately I cannot work with you in my private practice, as this would be in breach of my contract with the University of Edinburgh Student Counselling Service, where I am employed as a Counsellor.
My first session
The first session is a chance for us to explore what has brought you to counselling and to get a sense of whether or not we can work together. My fee for the first session is the same as for any subsequent sessions.
It is also important to note that I have a dog, who would be in the room during the session, so please let me know if you have any concerns or queries about this.
