About me and my therapy practice
Sometimes, the public face we present can be very different to the private experience behind the mask others see. Our emotional distress can get in the way of us being who we really are and we can feel alone, stuck, anxious, depressed or angry.
Confidential, non-judgemental and safe, I can offer you these three key ingredients to help you feel secure. A place where you are the priority and you choose which issue you wish to explore together. It is my role to empower you to trust and believe in yourself so that public mask can be put to one side.
Pre-counselling days I worked in admin, working with carers of children with additional needs and being easy to talk to, naturally warm and empathetic, people would always share information that was troubling them and I was able to help them identify what their main priority was so that we could focus on that first. For as long as I can remember I have found that people have shared their personal stories with me, some very personal information too, no matter of the location, on a bus or whilst ordering a coffee.
Since 2019 I have been a volunteer with a local mental health charity, initially at a support group and then as a counsellor and I will continue to do so as long as I am able to. Mental health support is something I feel very passionate about and being able to talk to a counsellor can help - I know from experience! Anxiety; feeling sad, lonely, depressed or any feeling of unrest, we all need to talk at some point.
My counselling approach is based upon integrative counselling and is primarily non-directive, based upon the person centred approach. I believe counselling enables you to reflect upon yourself and your difficulties. I can offer you a safe environment where you can choose which issue you wish to work on and to take the lead in exploring what it is that troubles you. It is my role to empower you to trust and believe in yourself.
I offer online and face to face sessions
My first session
I offer all new clients a 30 minute initial session, free of charge .
This enables you to:
- meet and become familiar with me and experience what it feels like to talk with me, to find out if you are comfortable doing so
- to discuss your support needs and how I might meet them
You are then able to make an informed decision as to whether working together is right for you. If you feel you would like to proceed from there , we will would engage in sessions held at the same time each week
