About me and my therapy practice

Emotional distress forms a part of everyday life. For the most part we manage it on our own, as and when it arises. But sometimes events can overtake us, the distress accumulates, becomes overwhelming and more difficult to manage alone especially if the source of the pain isn’t obvious or has been avoided for many years. This can result in depression, anxiety, intense frustration, or panic making day-to-day life and relationships more difficult to navigate.

When these difficulties arise, talking in confidence to a trained counsellor or psychotherapist can help us to understand what we are feeling and why we are feeling it. Meeting regularly to explore and work through feelings and behaviours (both past and present) that we are conscious, and sometimes not so conscious, of can help us to understand why we do what we do and, more importantly, what we’d like to change. The smallest of ‘psychic shifts’ can provide a significant improvement to our confidence and sense of well-being.

Practice description

I work psychodynamically which means that I offer a talking therapy that encourages my clients to speak openly in sessions about events and feelings from their past and present in order to identify links and patterns of behaviour that have caused, and continue to cause, distress. By working through these findings  in an empathic, trusting and containing way, I aim to transform what was once disturbing and unbearable into something more meaningful and tolerable.
