About me and my therapy practice
MA (Psych) PG Dip (Psych), PG Cert, Advanced Dip CBT, Chair of BACP Coaching Division.
A warm, genuine, compassionate, and collaborative mindset is central to the way I work with people. I believe every person is unique, and the expert on their own life and experiences. Building a safe, non-judgemental and confidential relationship with you is at the heart of my approach.
I'm experienced in working with clients of all ages and backgrounds, including troubled teens, exhausted parents, through to overwhelmingly stressed professionals. As an Integrative Psychotherapist (Master's degree/PG Dip Psych, University of Roehampton) I offer you a safe and contained space to to allow you to recognise and process feelings and emotions that may originate in your past, but are 'showing up' in your present. The origins of these difficulties may not be obvious to ourselves, or those around us, and can manifest as symptoms including anxiety, depression, or compulsive and self-harming behaviours.
With twenty years experience in business roles before retraining in psychology, I fully understand the highs and lows of balancing busy family and working lives, as well as what it takes to create sustainable psychological and behavioural change. As both a qualified and registered Integrative Psychotherapist (MBACP) and Executive Coach (Association for Coaching) working in private practice and within organisations, I help people identify the lives they truly want to lead, and support them throughout the changes they wish to make.
"My sessions with Lucy have quite simply been life changing. Her warm nature and energy had me feeling at ease from the get go. Lucy has helped me to heal, build and improve on myself and other relationships, which has had such a positive impact on my life and those around me. She has given me the confidence and skills that I need to carry me forward, far beyond our sessions which is invaluable."
With a Master's degree in Integrative Psychotherapy from the University of Roehampton (Distinction), my training in humanistic, cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic therapies help me most effectively understand and empathise with your unique background and life experiences. We will work together within a relationship built on trust, warmth, and respect, to carefully explore your feelings, emotions and behaviour. I'm trained to understand how childhood experiences in the past can unconsciously influence our emotions and behaviour in the present. You are always in the driving seat for what we will discuss.
I'm experienced in drawing from a range of approaches to help people overcome difficulties including anxiety, depression, bereavement, disordered eating, trauma, and addictive and compulsive behaviours. With an Advanced Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy I am skilled in using several different CBT techniques, and in the application of Counselling for Depression (CfD). I have experience working with post-natal depression (PND), gender dysphoria, fertility issues, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), ADHD and autism, sexuality, and the impact of racism and discrimination.
As a qualified Executive Coach and Coaching Supervisor (Chair of BACP's Coaching division), I'm able to draw on coaching skills I use to work creativity and collaboratively with people in large organisations and private practice. Whether you are looking for counselling, psychotherapy, or life coaching, my specialised background enables me to develop a solution-focussed plan for each client that is specifically tailored to their individual challenges and goals. This enables me to continually review together how you feel therapy is working for you, and flexibly adapt how we work together as our relationship progresses, your autonomy grows, and your need for support evolves.
My first session
We will have a free of charge phone call first. Being able to really relax and trust your therapist is a really valuable part of your healing process, so it's important for me that you feel comfortable (particularly as I know starting therapy can sometimes feel daunting).
In our first session my aim is to listen to you. My solution-focussed approach is to work flexibly to explore the changes you wish to make, and how therapy may help you move forwards towards greater fulfilment and wellbeing.
We will discuss your goals for therapy and agree how we could work together, including the number of sessions you may like to plan for.
I work on Zoom, telephone, and face to face, dependent on your location and preferences. My private practice is located in Twickenham in a garden room with private bathroom facilities, and free parking available outside the property.
