About me and my therapy practice
As a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, my work uses a relational integrative approach. This way of working is firmly rooted in building a safe and compassionate therapeutic relationship with my clients. Within this relationship I carefully attune to the needs, feelings and pace of each individual, to enable movement toward their own personal therapeutic goals.
Sessions can help clients explore an understanding of their difficulties, uncover patterns in their history and decide upon steps towards change. Coping and well-being skills can be developed through the therapeutic relationship to assist with anxiety, loss, depression and many other life challenges.
The direction of the therapy is client driven and can often explore deeper, longer term issues and relationships that clients have with others, and with themselves.
Whether you are impacted by the current global situation, relationships within your life or have a more personal or historical difficulty, my training and experience can allow a space for you to look into what may otherwise be difficult to explore on your own.
I have worked alongside many individual adults, at their different life stages. My counselling work has included a wide variety of issues within both short and longer term therapy in the voluntary sector, in the work place through employee assistance programs and in private practice.
I offer sessions in person in my private therapy room in the centre of Barnstaple and also remotely via Zoom and by phone. I hold a limited number of lower fee spaces available to low income groups, key workers and counselling students. I welcome any initial enquiries via email, text or phone.
My training/qualifications include:
CPCAB Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling
CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (BACP accredited)
CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies
CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills
Cruse Bereavement Care/Ascentis National Awarding Body: Awareness in Bereavement Care Foundation Course.
My first session
The initial assessment session, the beginning of the therapeutic relationship, is an opportunity for the therapist and client to get a sense of one another. For you, the client, to gain a sense of the safety and security of the sessions and for us to begin to explore what has brought you to counselling and how we might agree to work together. There is space for your questions and concerns as I invite you to begin to share a sense of yourself, your life context and your history.
