About me and my therapy practice

I work with children and teenagers aged 11 and over who are experiencing anxiety.
Managing anxiety requires motivation, effort and skills and we work on this in therapy. I’ll help your child recognise, understand and navigate the process of anxiety so they can handle however it shows up for them. I’ll help them practice and master body and brain-based skills that develop bravery and resilience.
These skills can help them make the shift from perceiving experiences as threatening to seeing them as a challenge they’re willing to engage with. I’ll also help your child discover and clarify their personal values and strengths so they can avoid less, take more action and move forward doing what matters to them, even when anxiety shows up.
I’m trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches. To make sure we’re using the ones which are most effective I use Feedback-Informed Treatment, an empowering process that involves your child and I regularly reviewing sessions together to identify the approaches that are most supportive for them. Doing this keeps our work effective, builds our relationship and gives your child agency in their therapy.
It’s more powerful when parents/carers are part of the therapeutic process so I like to include you. This doesn’t always look the same, and children don’t always want parents involved, but your willingness to be part of the process will support your child to get the most out of therapy.
It can be hard for children to say yes to therapy, especially when they’re anxious, and that can leave parents feeling frustrated, uncertain and helpless. If your child isn’t ready for therapy I can still help by working with you instead. I’ll teach you about anxiety, how to avoid common traps that parents fall into that unknowingly contribute to anxiety, and how to respond to, support and coach your child to help them tolerate and accept uncertainty, manage discomfort, develop skills and take independent, courageous action.

Practice description

My 20+ year career has been based on supporting and understanding the developmental, emotional, social and mental health needs of children and young people. I started my career in education as a teacher, Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Coordinator and Headteacher working exclusively with students experiencing social emotional and mental health challenges. After I gained my Masters in Psychology and Marriage & Family Therapy I pivoted into counselling, working both in schools and private practice. I’ve worked with children and teenagers from diverse backgrounds, cultures and identities with a variety of neurodevelopmental differences and mental health challenges. Growing my skills and experience is something I value and actively work on. Some of the approaches I'm trained in include Systemic Therapy, Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy.
