About me and my therapy practice

People come to therapy for a wide range of different reasons. You could be looking for help with depression, anxiety or distorted thinking, to deal with past trauma or abuse, to explore relationship problems or family issues, to help cope with grief and loss, to learn to deal with change. You could be feeling stuck, uncertain, alone, and have issues with identity and self-worth, stress or lack of confidence, or simply want to learn to understand yourself and your relationships more.

Perhaps right now you know you're not happy; you don't feel like your usual self, you're struggling to connect with other people or explain what's wrong. You want someone to listen to you, to help you feel better. You might not feel like your problems are big or serious enough, but everyone can benefit from becoming more aware of how they see the world and why. Working with the right therapist can help you to understand your difficulties, confront and overcome challenges, figure out what's holding you back and what you'd like to change, and improve your relationship with yourself and others.

Psychotherapy can help you to discover the impact of things that have happened to you, to express and process your feelings, improve communication and relationships, heal from trauma, and find better and more helpful ways to cope.

Sometimes people's ideas about therapy can be outdated, or based on what they see in TV shows, and they think it's all lying on a couch talking about your childhood while the therapist takes notes and silently judges you. The reality is actually far from that, and is based on a well-developed and trusting alliance between the therapist and client. A  It's therefore really important to find a therapist who feels like the right fit for you, and with whom you feel able to be open and honest.

Practice description

I am an experienced Integrative Transactional Analysis psychotherapist, working with individuals seeking help for a wide range of issues. I offer a safe space to talk about anything, and am committed to listening with empathy, curiosity, compassion, and understanding - and without judgement. I pride myself on the authentic relationships I build with my clients, and believe there is room in the therapeutic space for humour, creativity and unique connection.

Watching the people I work with learn more about themselves, grow and develop through self-reflection, question and ultimately change deep-seated and unhelpful thought patterns and ways of behaviour is incredibly rewarding. It is an honour to learn about them, and to be part of their experience and growth.

I have been working with clients both face to face and online for five years, providing high-quality long-term individual psychotherapy. I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy (Level 7), and a Certificate in Person-Centred Counselling.

Committed to continuing professional development, I regularly undertake further training across a wide variety of therapeutic subjects and modalities.

A registered member of BACP, and the United Kingdom Association for Transactional Analysis, I am committed to working within the ethical frameworks of these professional bodies, to respecting diversity in all its forms, and to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism. I am fully insured and have regular clinical supervision.

My first session

Starting therapy can be daunting. The idea of sharing personal details with someone you don't know can feel risky, so you need to find someone you feel you connect with and who understands you. This is why I offer a free 15 minute introductory phone call to discuss how the process works, answer any questions you may have, and see if we would be a good fit for each other.

If after this we decide to work together, we will agree a regular timeslot each week when your sessions will take place. Each session is 50 minutes long, and will be held remotely on a secure video calling platform such as Zoom. I currently have availability in both daytimes and evenings, and my fee is £60 per session.

In the first full session we will discuss the therapeutic contract, and I will ask questions to find out more about your story, your experiences and relationships, how you see the world, and what has brought you to therapy at this time.

There is no agenda or set structure, and you can choose to talk about whatever feels most important for you at that time. Together we will develop a relationship and establish ways of working which feel comfortable for you.
