About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Helena Prentice (Dip. Couns, MBACP) and I am a qualified therapeutic counsellor and a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy). I am insured and ICO registered, and I also hold an up-to-date Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate.
As well as running my private practice, Enlightened Minds Therapy, I also work within an NHS setting providing therapy to adults and children between 5 and 18 years of age. I have experience working with a range of mental health issues of varying severities.
I thoroughly understand that making the decision to start therapy can be a scary and overwhelming one. Therapy is an extremely personal experience which can evoke many different feelings. However, through my experience, I have personally witnessed the profound transformation that can take place in both adults and children. Whatever your situation or issue, therapy aims to make a positive and significant change to your life and wellbeing. I can offer you a confidential, safe, non-judgemental space, so that you can explore your difficulties and take the first steps towards a brighter outlook for the future.
Although I work integratively, my roots are in Humanistic, Person Centred theory, which means I am able to draw from a range of therapeutic modalities. This enables me to tailor the therapy to individual needs. I tend to incorporate concepts based on Psychodynamic, Gestalt, and Psychosynthesis principles, together with CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), CFT (Compassion Focused Therapy) and Mindfulness.
I can help both adults and children. If you think you or your child would benefit from my services, please get in touch with me.
My first session
Adults: Initial phone assessment is free. A first session will involve a general history and exploration of what you want to achieve in therapy. It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions that you might have.
Children: Initial assessment/pre-meet is free. I will speek to parents on their own, face to face or over the phone, for a preliminary meeting before completing an assessment/first session with your child. This initial session is vital for me to gather information, and it allows parents to freely express their concerns.
What if you're not the right therapist for me?: I strongly believe that a good therapeutic outcome is largely dependent on the quality of the relationship that the client and their therapist share. Usually, we should get a good sense of how we might get along from our initial meeting. There is no obligation for you to stay in therapy with me and I will do my best to refer you to another therapist if you feel that is the right choice for you.
