About me and my therapy practice

I provide a non-judgmental, respectful, supportive and confidential environment. I believe the quality of the relationship is paramount to the therapeutic work and to the person I am working with, a positive relationship ensures for a person to feel heard and respected, which allows those who I work with to find a better understanding of themselves, at their pace.

I work with adults offering face to face, online or telephone sessions.

Practice description

I work using an integrative approach, drawing on my psychology degree, my person-centred training, and other methodologies I have knowledge of, this includes the psychodynamic approach, cognitive behavioural therapy, (CBT).  I understand that everyone is a unique individual, therefore sessions are tailored to meet a person's needs.

I have experience of working within charitable organizations, educational settings and the NHS.

As a therapist I have worked with a diverse range of clients and issues, I understand that issues that people face are complex and affect people in different ways and I have experience of working with and supporting people with a variety of difficulties and issues, these are listed within the 'What I can help you with' section below.

I also have experience of working with autistic individuals and individuals with ADHD this is both in therapeutic roles and non-therapeutic roles.

From my experience of working with autistic individuals and individual's with ADHD, I understand the difficulties of social communication and relating with others can be confusing, the impact of alexithymia the difficulties of understating emotions, sensory processing and sensory overload can be distressing, and how theory of mind and executive functioning impacts daily life.

I support my clients and work in a person-centred way, working with the individual to help them understand themselves better, explore strategies to help to improve communication and relating with others and implement strategies to enable an individual to manage daily life and to be an advocate from themselves and exploring ways to improve quality of life and an individual’s emotional wellbeing, mental health, to improve confidence and self-esteem.

My first session

When you make contact with me, I will email you to offer you a free introductory telephone call, (there is no obligation to work with me) this allows us to arrange a mutually convenient time to have the call and to ensure you can be in confidential space when you  speak with me.

I will always reply to an enquiry, please check your junk email.

During the telephone call my aim will be to understand the issues that bring you to counselling and to explain how I work. During this you can decide if I am the right counsellor for you.

If from the information you have given me if it is felt a different approach is needed or an alternative service would better suit your needs. I will discuss this with you and assist you in finding alternative therapist or services.

Please note that I will not be able to work with you if you are receiving ongoing therapy from another counsellor/therapist or agency.

What to expect in your first session:

During the first session I will be an initial assessment, I will be gathering further information about you and we can discuss the goals of therapy, what issues you feel you want to work on/resolve and how you want to move forwards. The first session is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions.

During the sessions I will work at the pace of that is right for you and I will work on the issues that you wish to bring into the sessions, and you wish to discuss.
