About me and my therapy practice
Hello 👋🏾
I’m Valerie, a BACP Accredited Counsellor & Psychotherapist, and a training Trauma Therapist. I currently offer online sessions to individuals, couples and groups.
How are you?
It can be hard to acknowledge that you are not feeling okay, and even harder pretending that you are. If you’re struggling to cope with something, or you feel lost, or stuck, if you’re unhappy in your relationship/marriage, or you feel numb or detached after experiencing something traumatic; I may be able to help.
What I can offer
We can work together to develop a safe, reflective space for you to gently get in touch with your feelings; a crucial step in the healing process. We can work together for an agreed period of time with a specific focus in mind, or we could leave it open-ended to explore at greater depth. You can decide which feels right for you.
I provide a confidential space where we can explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours; paying close attention to those deeply held beliefs and uncover any unexplored feelings or attitudes.
It takes courage to acknowledge that you need some help. If you get in touch, I’ll respond to you promptly! We can arrange an online consultation where we can gently explore your reasons for wanting counselling, what you hope to gain, discuss any additional needs or concerns that you may have and get a sense of whether it feels right for us to work together.
Ready to get in Touch?
I am ready to welcome you! Why not get in touch today?
Practice description
I am currently extending my training by undertaking a qualification in Trauma Therapy at the NAOS Institute and Somatic Trauma Therapy with Babette Rothschild.
We will begin the process of resourcing you. This involves exploration of your current coping mechanisms, support networks, enjoyable activities, favourite places and objects, spirituality and rituals, etc.
Then you’ll be gently prepared to begin the process of learning to working with the body; eventually learning to notice the sensations, what they might be communicating and discovering and identifying useful internal resources that may help you through this process, and beyond therapy.
These are offered as part of our developing relationship, and is fundamental to the process of stabilisation, developing a sense of safety and integration of learning and resources after any experience that has resulted in post-traumatic stress or PTSD.
I have worked in a variety of settings and have gained experience of working safely with anxiety/generalised anxiety disorder, depression and their various manifestations, sexual abuse, relationship issues, domestic abuse, rape, sexual assault, trauma, pregnancy loss, sudden infant death (SIDS), post-traumatic stress, and self-injury. I also have 20 years personal experience of working with autism.
Alongside my private practice, I counsel medical students in higher education.
