About me and my therapy practice
Hello I’m Gemma, and welcome to my profile. I chose to become a person-centred counsellor after my own positive experience of counselling. I understand that it is natural for life to have its highs and lows, but that sometimes these lows can feel overwhelming and never ending. Life changes can make living our everyday lives seem difficult, or even hopeless. At other times trying to decide on a direction can leave us feeling overwhelmed.
In my counselling practice I wish to offer you a safe and nurturing space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at a pace that is right for you and leading you to a greater sense of peace or resolution.
Practice description
In my therapy room, I offer a welcoming, non-judgemental space where you can be yourself – unfiltered and able to take off the mask you may show to the world.
I will also be my genuine self, and see our time together as a partnership with each of us bringing something unique to the relationship. I do not offer advice, instead I wish to walk with you, as you explore what matters to you.
I work in an open-ended way, allowing each of my clients the space to work through their troubles, thoughts, and feelings in their own time, and at their own pace.
If you are ready to start your journey and move towards personal growth, please get in touch to arrange a free, no-obligation call to see how we may work together.
My first session
Reaching out to a counsellor may stir a range of emotions within you, and depending on your experience of therapy you may also have a range of questions you would like answered before committing to the process.
This is why I offer a free 'getting to know you' call before our initial session. This time allows us to begin to get to know each other, and I can answer any questions you may have. You can also tell me why you are seeking therapy, and perhaps what you may be looking for in a therapist. At the end of this call, if we feel we would like to work together, we can schedule an initial session.
At the start of our first session, we discuss how we are to work together in more depth. I will also complete a client assessment. All counsellors complete a client assessment. Its purpose is to find out more about you, your needs, and your hopes for counselling. Once this is complete the rest of the session time can be used as you wish - perhaps to begin to tell me more about your story. Towards the end of the session, I will check in with you to find out how you found the session and if you would like to continue to work with me.
