About me and my therapy practice

I am a fully qualified and accredited counsellor and I provide non-judgemental and confidential counselling support from a private practice in University Street, Belfast.

I aim to work with you to establish a trusting, therapeutic relationship so that you will feel supported to tell your story, explore difficult feelings, reflect on the choices you’ve made and find ways to make things better in your life.

Since counselling seeks to help you better understand who you are and what you want from your life, it can also ensure you become more confident and assertive, develop better relationships, set realistic goals, gain a greater sense of direction and encourage a more fulfilled life.

I practice as an integrative therapist. This means my therapeutic practice draws on person-centred, cognitive behavioural and psychodynamic helping strategies. I also have an interest in working to challenge unhelpful and damaging societal narratives that may have negatively impacted on individual wellbeing.

I have more than thirty years' experience working with a diverse range of people and groups within the voluntary and community sector including over ten years as a counselling supervisor with Childline/NSPCC, as a counsellor in a school and with local counselling agencies. I’ve also worked for Brook, The Rainbow Project, Praxis Mental Health and as a lecturer at both the Belfast Institute and East Antrim Institute of Further and Higher Education.

About me and my therapy practice

I hold the CPCAB Level 6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision and I work primarily from the Inskipp and Proctor three-stage model in order to support practitioners to maintain competent practice within ethical guidelines and standards of practice.

Aside from an exploration of client work and the development of skills and theoretical knowledge, I also feel supervision should encompass an exploration of self-care, renewal, continuing professional development and the ability to manage significant life-events while still working.

If you feel you might benefit from a period of supervised practice or if your registered/accrediting body requires that you engage in regular and on-going supervision, please contact me to arrange a meeting.

An initial meeting to discuss supervision needs is provided free of charge.
