About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist working in the Harrogate and Leeds area. I offer individual counselling to both adults and young people. My work can be short or long-term. I work within a humanistic and person-centred approach that puts the client at the centre of the therapeutic relationship. I work with the client’s own unique frame of reference, in a way that is best suited to the client's needs.
My beliefs are:
• All human beings have the capacity for personal growth.
• We all possess an innate resilience to overcome struggles in a way that is meaningful to us, but sometimes we can lose sight of this and need help to get back on track.
• We are all unique with differing backgrounds, experiences, beliefs and values, and therapeutic practice should respect and reflect this.
My role as a counsellor is to help support clients to recognise their strengths and resourcefulness. I provide a safe and nurturing environment where they feel heard, accepted and able to explore thoughts and feelings. Through this relationship, I hope the client can begin to live in a way that feels more genuine to them, in turn increasing overall well-being.
I have worked as a lead counsellor for an organisation working with both children and adults affected by sexual violence. In this role I managed a team of counsellors delivering counselling support to students within a university setting. I have counselling experience in secondary schools and have been a mentor for the domestic violence team in Lincolnshire. I have a particular interest in trauma work and in working with disordered eating.
Practice description
In these challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, I am offering both online and telephone counselling whilst face to face counselling is not possible. I have recently reduced my fees to £30 per hour to make counselling more affordable in uncertain financial times.
