About me and my therapy practice

From my personal experience and that of many around me, I am acutely aware of how life can present us with challenges that at times can feel insurmountable and generate considerable emotional pain. To assist clients in overcoming these ‘issues with life’, I provide a relational, nurturing environment where they are listened to empathetically and empowered to follow their own path. My own multicultural background and varied professional history in educational and supportive roles has prepared me to engage with clients on a wide range of issues without judgment or preconceptions, a stance that has benefited my clients at PF Counselling Service since 2019 and in my own practice.

I am a qualified psychodynamic therapist with a Post-graduate Diploma in Human Relations and Counselling from Human Development Scotland (2020). I also hold a Post-graduate Certificate in Counselling Studies from The University of Edinburgh (2013) focussed on an integrative approach between psychodynamic and person-centred modalities.

My practice is influenced by a life-long interest in Jungian therapy and by my considerable experience with energy therapy. I am a qualified Reiki Master with over 1,000 hours of Reiki therapy practice as part of my work with the Tollcross Community Healing Group between 2009 and 2017. This understanding of subtler dynamics enables me to attune to the unspoken feelings of my clients and facilitate a primordial nurturing environment where they can express their whole self and begin to thrive. I also adopt a variety of creative approaches, depending on the individual needs and inclinations of each client.

Practice description

I am based in Edinburgh and currently provide weekly 50-minute online sessions via Zoom, WhatsApp and other platforms, which allows me to support clients irrespective of their location. As Covid-19 restrictions continue to be eased, face-to-face sessions are likely to be resumed, if and when appropriate.

In addition to offering therapy in both English and Portuguese, I also have a firm grasp of French, Italian and Spanish, which has proven invaluable in facilitating deeper expression and exploration of affects in the clients’ own languages.

My first session

The process of looking for and choosing a therapist can feel rather daunting, even for clients who have been in therapy in the past. Therefore, prior to a first session I offer a 20-minute free-of-charge consultation via Zoom or WhatsApp, so that we can have an initial conversation and schedule our first session.

In our first session, you would be invited to approach the issue or issues that motivated you to seek a therapist. This initial exploration would also allow you to get a sense of how our work together would be like. At the end of the session you can decide whether to begin the work with me and, if so, we can then agree on the main focus of the work and its duration, usually from a minimum of 6 sessions to long-term or open-ended.
