About me and my therapy practice

Many people will at times, come apart and feel unable to cope with the situations in their everyday life. Cardiff counselling service provides a space to explore difficult, stressful and or emotional feelings.

Cardiff Counselling is a confidential counselling service for adults and children. The service provides counselling sessions for the individual privately and through employee HR services.

During the sessions, you are given a safe space to explore your difficulties, behaviour, relationships, coping skills and decision making. Talking about the situations which cause you to feel conflicted in a non-judgmental solution focused way, you will be able to see things more clearly and be able to reach decisions and actions by building on your skills to problem solve and set goals for positive change.

Through this process you will develop your autonomy and resilience to create change in your everyday life experiences and in some cases quite quickly.

Practice description

Hi my name is Ruth and I have been a qualified practicing counsellor since 2010. My background and training is in behaviour therapy and modification, where I worked at a behaviour treatment center in States for 6 years.

More recently I have worked part time for a children’s mental health charity and part time in my own private practice Cardiff Counselling, working with children, young people and adults.

Over the years I have worked with children who are struggling with behaviour problems, bereavement, physical and sexual abuse, divorce, disability, ADHD, Autism, self-harm, drug misuse, gang culture, sexual identity, loneliness and friendship difficulties.

I have worked with adults male and female struggling depression, anxiety, stress, drug and alcohol misuse, bereavement, sexuality, sexual assault, physical assault, health issues, breakdowns, redundancy, divorce and separation, loss of themselves, child illness and work-related issues.

My first session

I work from a person-centred approach, integrated with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, solution focused therapy and therapeutic play therapy.

The first session will always begin with an assessment of the clients needs and why they are coming for counselling. Identifying issues, current coping strategies and creating goals for change.

Throughout the counselling sessions, the autonomy of the individual is key and I am led by their needs. Through this process I have seen my clients change and grow throughout the session and no longer struggle with anxiety and depression.

Currently sessions are mostly phone or online. Dependent on the needs of the client face-to-face sessions can be arranged.

Counselling sessions are 50 minutes long and the fees are below –

£55 per individual online.

£60 per individual in-person.

£75 per couple online.

£80 per couple in-person.

If you require further information, or would like a chat to discuss your options please feel free to contact me on 07912 097 405 or via email at Cardiffcounselling1@gmail.com or via my website www.cardiffcounselling.cymru

I am usually able to respond to enquiries within 24 hours and can arrange to see/speak to you shortly afterwards. I work flexibly throughout the week so a convenient appointment time can usually be found.
