About me and my therapy practice
Hi I'm Jen. I am a Therapeutic Counsellor working and living in Hove, East Sussex. My interest in building 1-to-1 relationships with clients and meeting their individual needs started over 20 years ago when I began working as a Lifestyle & Nutrition Coach and Personal Trainer. Over that time, my passion for supporting clients with their well-being and helping them to achieve positive change has been a common thread in my work. Through my growing interest and studies in psychology and human behaviour I have come to fully appreciate how much physical and psychological well-being go hand in hand.
If you feel trapped and hopeless by your situation, I can help you to look at it with fresh eyes and gradually through exploration and insight in a safe and supportive space, the answers you seek and the right pathway become completely clear. Counselling can be a life changing experience and I continue to be humbled and proud of the experiences and transformations that I have been privileged to be a part of in my client work.
By emailing me or calling we can arrange a time for a free, (up to) 30 minute consultation over the phone so we can talk a little bit about what is going on for you at this time and you can gain a sense of me. Finding the right counsellor for you is important and I welcome the opportunity for you to get in touch with no obligation for you to commit. I would recommend you doing this with three counsellor's to see which you feel is best for you.

Our sessions will be held in a purpose created therapy room in my home. The house is also home to my cat and dog which may not be suitable for people with allergies or fear of animals, though the latter could be worked with.
Therapy in Nature
Nature itself offers a unique and healing therapeutic space. If you want to try it, I offer walking and talking sessions across the local South Downs National Park or alternatively on the quieter parts of the beach.
Face to face meetings are not convenient for everyone and so I offer online counselling sessions. The format of the sessions will remain the same and I will still be talking to you from my therapy room.
Another platform of support I am available for is telephone counselling. It can really be helpful in allowing some people to open up more as they feel less self conscious.
Whichever medium is best for you, we'll aim to meet weekly. For some clients just 3 sessions can be enough, for some, work can go on over months and for others, long term therapy over a year or more is right for them. Alternatively we can schedule 12 sessions where we agree that in that time, we are going to focus on one specific issue. I have worked extensively in this way and found it can be really powerful. If you're not sure, you can just decide as you go along. Therapy isn't dictated, you have the autonomy to decide what is best for you.
My first session
After you make initial contact we'll have a chat and explore if we feel we want to meet. If so, we'll find a time convenient to us both for our first session. As part of that session we'll talk through our working agreement. This agreement will cover confidentiality, how we arrange payment, the cancellation policy including notice for rescheduling sessions and other relevant information relating to the practicalities of the work. Sessions are 50 minutes long.
You'll have an opportunity in this session to share any concerns, ask questions and talk about what counselling means to you. If you've had counselling before we can talk to understand what may or may not have been helpful. I'll be able to clarify what you may come to expect and discuss your hopes, fears and expectations. Counselling can still be a taboo subject sadly and there are myths around what counselling is. There will be time in this, and other sessions for us to explore these things so you can enter the relationship with a full understanding of what to expect.
I support with care and empathy, empowering you and nurturing your autonomy on the path to change and healing. I am beside you as we create the sessions together. I provide a safe space, one which gives a feeling of being held, where you can share your experiences in confidence.
In my work I integrate different theories that I have trained in. I also continue to develop my skills and attend ongoing training which is a requirement of a registered practitioner. Primarily my work is client centered and from there I may integrate other ways of working that will support you in your journey. I find that integrating other techniques as required can really help clients to identify issues and feelings that may have lay hidden in the unconscious.
