About me and my therapy practice
I'm an experienced and accredited therapist offering short-term, time-limited or long-term, open-ended counselling to individuals aged 18 and over.
Life can often present us with many struggles and challenges and recent or past events can leave us feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, depressed or with a general feeling of being unable to cope. This can be difficult to navigate alone, particularly if you're looking for the space and energy to do more of what you enjoy but find yourself unable to do so.
It is my aim to offer you a safe, warm and non-judgemental space, where you can better understand and manage your thoughts and feelings so they no longer feel overwhelming. Many of my clients report feeling:
• Better equipped to resolve challenges and difficulties that arise;
• A better understanding and more awareness of themselves and what is happening for them;
• A sense of calm; and,
• An increased ability to make better choices and/or form and maintain more fulfilling relationships.
My areas of expertise include; grief, bereavement & loss, working with young adults (18-35), anxiety (including social anxiety), depression, low self-esteem and excessive self-criticism/perfectionism.
Practice description
Counselling with me is a space for us to explore and reflect on what is happening for you. Feeling heard and understood can be a validating and empowering experience and working together we can support you to:
• Understand yourself and/or make sense of your experiences.
• Develop capacity for self-compassion.
• Find or regain a sense of ownership over your life.
I believe there is no "one size fits all" approach, as the therapy process is as unique as the human experience. It is for this reason I use a relational integrative approach, which means that my work is grounded in the person-centred and compassion-focused approaches but can also be tailored to best suit your needs.
I believe in the importance of working in a collaborative way, which means we work at your pace and focus on the things you want to bring to a session. I also believe that you know yourself best and working with me will support you to find your own voice.
My first session
Introductory Call: If you might be interested in working with me, I encourage you to contact me to arrange a free, no-obligation, introductory chat.
The counselling relationship is an essential foundation to the work, so finding a counsellor who is a good fit is important. This call is an opportunity for us to both get a sense of how we might work together, your hopes and expectations of the therapy process and to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
If we feel like we are a good match, our first session will be a full 50 minute session, which aims to get a more detailed understanding of the issues that bring you to counselling and explore any relevant background history. We will also cover our working agreement and it is a chance for you to ask any additional questions or raise any concerns you may have.
I know from my own experiences of therapy that it takes courage to take that first step and it is common to experience a feeling of anxiousness, nervousness or apprehension before a first session. It is for these reasons that I aim to ensure you feel relaxed, settled and comfortable; including working at your pace, which means you do not have to share anything that you are not ready to.
What I can help with
