About me and my therapy practice

You may call me Penny. I am 52, married. Counsellor and Supervisor. At times life will burden each one of us with pressures or difficulties. We can find that we are so engrossed in the issue that we don't recognise the most obvious course of action.I believe that you do have the answer it's just you don't know it, so we will work together to find it.

I hope you will feel comfortable and at ease in my therapy room at home.

 Feedback:

'I honestly don't know where I'd be if I hadn't started coming to you. I've come such a long way in ways I never thought I could which is in no small part down to you. Your listening, calmness, and thoughts quickly made me feel very comfortable (a rare thing for me) and meant I could really be myself and more honest than I've ever been. Thank you.' (A.W.)

'Myself and my partner had a series of counselling sessions with Penny spanning nearly six months. We have both had individual counselling before but never as a couple and I found the idea daunting and exposing. We had a lot of confusion in our lives bought on by circumstances and dubious decisions and were quite lost and taking it out on each other. Over the weeks Penny was able to help us unravel the confusion, in a safe space she was able to slowly help us unpick the real issues and look at our life and relationships with perspective. Some of the results were shocking and quite literally life changing. I personally was amazed at how much of myself I could explore and dare to face. With warmth and empathy but always professional Penny was there for me and my partner at the most difficult time of our relationship.I cannot thank her enough for the safe space we created together and the strength I now feel to carry on.' (J.N)

'Thank you so much for the help you have given me over the past 5 weeks. I feel so much stronger and able to cope with any possible situation in the future, and without your help I feel I would be in a totally different place for a lot longer than I am now. Again thank you.' (S.)

About me and my therapy practice

My theory is rooted in Person Centred, however I find other theories also help my work and understanding of the supervision and counselling process. I believe you already have abundance of knowledge and experience as a supervisor, counsellor, or trainee so I see my way of working is more collaborative, we work together as you develop professionally and personally.

Feedback:

"......I am comfortable and at ease with you to talk about anything, I like your unconventional way for example working with body sensations.I find it helpful how you pick up on positive ways I have been in the room with clients when I have my doubts, and it helps me to go back into the room and be more at ease with the way I am.'I' am more available with clients, it seems the more real I am in the session the more happens for the client...they are precious moments. It isn't your knowledge but it's your willingness, letting go....'being you' and allowing me to 'be me'. " (L.H)

"It has been good to work with you and I have gained a greater degree of self-awareness and understanding. I really appreciate the way in which you gently challenge me to seek a greater degree of understanding of my own self, the choices I make and how this fits with my patterns of relating and ways of being. I am increasingly aware of the changes taking place within me as a result of our sessions together. Thank you." (L.B)
