About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Michele (she/her) a London-based integrative therapist.
I know starting therapy can be daunting and I'll make space to explore what helps you feel safe, and what I can do or not do that would help you feel able to engage with therapy fully. Our dialogue will be open and collaborative as we talk about where you want to be in your life and how we can work together to progress towards this. You might want immediate solutions or a more in-depth exploration of what’s going on for you, or perhaps a mix of the two.
Sometimes I work with specific issues like grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, difficult relationships, and identity exploration, and other times people come to me because something just doesn’t feel right. I’ll meet you where you’re at and endeavour to provide a supportive space, whether you want to talk about a long-standing problem or a newer one, or that ‘not quite right’ feeling.
I have a strong commitment to intersectionality and aim to work from an anti-oppressive position. I am a queer-friendly, trauma-informed practitioner. My pluralistic approach considers the impact of societal systems and the intersections of cultural background and identity with emotional and mental wellbeing. I strive to practice in an identity-affirming way and actively understand that different identities and lived experience will shape how we experience the world.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of East London. I’ve worked for over a decade in the charity and voluntary sector in various roles with children, young people and adults, with particular experience working with refugees and asylum seekers of all ages. I have also supported grassroots community and campaign groups with strategy development, understanding power dynamics in their groups, internal conflicts, wellbeing and burnout.
Type of counselling
I draw from a variety of approaches and place strong emphasis on getting to know your preferences to find a way of working that resonates with you. I trust and value your lived experience and the understanding you make of it. My approach recognises that different tools, interventions and ways of working will work for different clients at different times, including during the course of therapy.
The initial consultation (40 minutes) is £50 and ongoing sessions (50 minutes) is £60.
I have a limited number of cheaper slots so please ask about the availability of these if this fee is unaffordable for you.
My first session
In our first session we'll talk about what brings you to therapy and explore your hopes and expectations. It will be a chance for you to get a sense of how I work and whether I am the right counsellor for you, and for me to answer any questions or concerns you may have. It will be a shorter session than usual (40 minutes instead of 50) and cost £50.
