I am currently on a sabbatical to focus on developing my private practice so have more flexibility and capacity at this time.

About me and my therapy practice

Welcome to "Get Clarity"

Hi, I am an Advanced Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor.

I absolutely love my job. The job satisfaction is immense; when I witness a client get clarity and follow up with with "why has noone told me this before!" Its the best feeling to know you've helped someone. I know that my work has been life-changing, in some cases it has been literally life-saving.

I qualified in 2008 from The Iron Mill Institute in several models of therapy and have developed my own unique way of working over time; primarily Solution Focused and Intuitive. I Incorporate Transactional Analysis (TA), CBT approaches, NLP and sometimes Sand Play Therapy into my sessions. I actively listen and work using a trauma informed approach.  I'm StressMap trained.

For the past 16 years I have worked as a drugs and alcohol professional facilitating groups 1:1 counselling and training colleagues and was a senier member of the Clinical Assessment Team triaging and assessing clients, providing brief interventions by phone or online.

I'm currenlty on sabbatical to focus on developing my private practice, as well as write a book. I want to get my way of working out to a bigger audience - especially those with addiction, low self esteem, anxiety, stress and anger management. The more people that achieve clarity and therfore, recovery, the better.

So, I am experienced in working with all aspects of life that may trigger a client to seek counselling. I previously ran my own wellbeing centre and supported many clients through transgender reassignment.

I counsel freelance for Sporting Chance, where I provide counselling for elite sports professionals and athletes.

I am currently training in Hypnotherapy, under the direction of Andrew Parr.

Practice description

After our initial assessment meeting, we will agree a set number of initial sessions ant then review progress regularly.

Counselling sessions last for one hour and are arranged by appointment.

I provide counselling for individuals, or couples, mainly remotely by video call, WhatsApp, Zoom or Teams, or face to face, walk and talk sessions which have proved very popular; making the most of the holistic benefits of walking in nature.

My face to face work is based around Exeter. I am also able to offer a mobile service.

The cost of Counselling is £58 per hour, for individuals.

Couples counselling is £75 per hour, per couple.

Student counsellors, clients on a low income or in receipt of benefits (as well as the first assessment meeting) the fee is reduced by 10%.

For those experiencing financial difficulties I have also introduced a short/check-in session £45 for 30/40 min.

Emergency/out of hours/none appointment interventions are chargeable at £100

There is no charge for cancellations provided I am given at least 24 hours notice. The full fee will be charged if insufficient notice is given.

As a thank you I send out a £5 coffee/garden centre or counselling credit voucher for all referrals received who attend an initial assessment and book a further counselling appointment.

My first session

When you first contact me or when I receive a referral for you I will send you my counselling information, contract for counselling and privacy notice for your perusal.

I will provide also you with a unique number, which will be used to password protect any correspondence between us.

It is important to develop a counselling contract. "Beginning with the end in mind" (Steven Covey) can be a good starting point, to help establish direction and keep our work focused. Our first session will clarify the issues and desired outcome. I use monitoring tools throughout to monitor progress and identify any risks throughout our work together

I do not encourage “counselling dependency”. I aim to complete the work in a timely manner, however, the value in having a “secure base” a place to feel safe to talk without judgement or time constraints, cannot be underestimated. I work hard to balance these two aspects of Talking Therapy.

Everybody has the right to stop counselling whenever they choose. I encourage clients, where possible to discuss any decisions to close sessions prior to an agreed time frame. Endings are important and benefit from special recognition and acknowledgement of the work completed.
