About me and my therapy practice

Hello, welcome to "Get Clarity Counselling"  Advanced Integrative  Counselling by Tina Walker

After 16 years in private practice & various charity & NHS settings, I remain passionate about helping clients access quality counselling, as soon as they need it.

Helping clients to work through & recover from a lifetime of unhelpful patterns of behaviours including, addictions & dependency, low self-esteem, limiting-beliefs, relationship issues, anxiety & trauma is incredibly rewarding work. Transactional Analysis & Intuitive Thinking underpin my practice.

From my perspective, I know that my work has been life-changing for many & literally life-saving for some. My ears are very finely tuned & I work in both a compassionate, trauma informed & empowering way from the offset.

One of my favourite phrases about my work: "why has no-one told me this before!"

I believe that we all have the right to feel proud of who we are, to shine, to be free to be our authentic selves without shame or a need to keep ourselves small! Sometimes breaking free of old habits requires support & professional guidance.

I am experienced in working with all aspects of life that may cause a client to seek counselling, although my specialism is around dependency, addiction & stress related issues. I previously ran my own wellbeing centre & supported many clients through loss, cancer treatment, divorce, relationship breakdown & intimate partner violence/abuse & transgender reassignment.

So you're looking for a counsellor?

I know it can feel very overwhelming with the number of counsellors to choose from..

My suggestion: Just choose a few, then give us a call.. You are interviewing us!! You need to feel safe, heard and held. We are here for you!

Currently, I also work as a freelance counsellor for Sporting Chance, who provide counselling for elite sports professionals & athletes.

I am currently training in Hypnotherapy & Belief Coding®️

Practice description

I provide face to face, walking, online, telephone counselling for individuals, and/or couples.  I am very used to counselling over the telephone and therefore video call is an added bonus. My face to face work can be at my home in Exeter or walk and talk sessions, to make the most of the powerful benefits of walking in nature. I also have access to a number of counselling venues if/when necessary.

Counselling sessions last for one hour.

After our initial assessment meeting/telephone call, we agree a number of initial sessions and then review your progress regularly.

*The cost of Counselling is £58 per hour, for individuals. (I am currently running a July promotion for payment in advance for ten sessions, to save you £80).

Couples counselling is £75 per hour, per couple.

Student counsellors, NHS employees, veterans and clients on a low income or in receipt of benefits (as well as the first assessment meeting) the fee is reduced by 10%.

*Emergency/out of hours/none appointment interventions are chargeable at £100 for every 30 minute intervention. (£50 call out/£50 intervention).

There is no charge for cancellations provided I am given at least 24 hours notice. The full fee will be charged if insufficient notice is given.

Referrals receive a £5 coffee/garden centre or counselling credit voucher upon referrees attendace at thier initial assessment and attendance at one further counselling appointment.

My first session

If you choose to make contact with me or if I receive a referral for you (with your consent) from a professional or family member, firstly, I will send you my counselling & privacy information for you to peruse in your own time.

If you would like an initial appointment I will send you a password protected assessment form for you to complete before we first meet.

All correspondence which may contain sensitive information will be password protected.

During our first session and throughout our work I use monitoring tools to monitor progress and identify any risks. Your first session gives you an opportunity to share what is troubling you. Together we can work out a plan and direction regarding your desired outcome.

I aim to complete our work together in a timely manner, however, there is huge value in having a “secure base,” a place to feel safe to talk without time constraints with a counsellor whom you've established a strong working relationship and trust. This is especially important when working with clients with trauma related issues when pacing is an essential part of the recovery process. That said, at no time do I encourage “counselling dependency”. Balancing these two aspects of therapeutic counselling is important to monitor throughout. Sometimes counselling requires periods of time to pause, practice & process.

Everybody has the right to stop counselling whenever they choose. However, endings are important and benefit from special recognition. Acknowledging the work that clients put in cannot be underestimented.

It takes great courage to reach out to ask for help. I strongly believe that working on ourselves is our biggest & best investment that we can make..

I hope my introduction has been helpful.

Rest assured your confidentiality is of primary importance to me, as is the effectiveness and safety of your treatment.

I shall look forward to hearing from you.
